공예가 제작활동의 디자인사고(思考) 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 공예품 제작 실무 현장에서 지속적으로 논의 되었던 디자인사고 교육의 필요성을 반영하여 공예가 제작활동의 사고, 행동 및 목적을 탐구하고자 하였다. 따라서 공예가 면담분석 중심의 질적 연구방법을 채택하였고, 선행연구인 문화체육관광부 주관의 ‘공예 문화 중장기 진흥정책 수립을 위한 기초연구’ 자료를 주축으로 공예 가치, 도구, 범위 그리고 공예품 특성을 공예를 구성하는 4가지 속성으로 도출하였다. 또한 디자인사고와 프로세스의 선행연구를 토대로 면담 질문을 구성하였고 면담 참여자는 도자공예, 목공예, 금속공예를 전공, 최소 10년 이상의 제작과 전시 경험을 가진 공예가로 한정하였다. 면담내용은 참여자의 관점에 따라 귀납적으로 분류하는 에믹코딩(Emic Coding)으로 주제분석(Thematic Analysis)하였다. 분석결과 디자인사고와 프로세스를 도구로 활용하여 공예작업 과정의 선택적 대입 가능성을 확인하였다. 공예가들이 기존에 진행해온 일련의 제작과정 사고 및 행위는 D.School 디자인사고의 5단계 프로세스 중 1단계 공감(Empathize), 2단계 정의(Define), 3단계 상상하고 관념화하기(Ideate)와 유사점이 존재하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 공예가들이 선택적으로 디자인사고의 단계별 활동을 활용한다면 시대적 변화를 반영한 공예품 개발에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study attempted to explore the thinking, behavior, and purpose of craftsmen’s production activities by reflecting the necessity of design thinking education that has been continuously discussed in the crafts field business. The qualitative methodology centered on semi-structured interview analysis of craftsmen was adopted, and the craft value, tool, scope, and craft characteristics were derived as the four main attributes of craft, based on the 'Basic Research for the Establishment of Mid- and Long-term Promotion Policies for Craft Culture' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In addition, interview questions were organized based on prior research on design thinking and process, and the subjects were limited to craftsmen with at least 10 years of experience in ceramic, wooden, and metal crafts. The content of their interviews was put to the thematic analysis based on emic coding, which is to classify inductively according to the viewpoints of participants. The findings demonstrate the possibilities of design thinking and process as another tool for craftsmen to take in their realistic crafts works. Stage 1 Empathize, Stage 2 Define, and Stage 3 Ideate in the five-stage process of D.School had similar aspects to the thinking and acting that craftsmen engaged in through a series of making processes. The selective utilization of the stages of the design thinking will contribute to the development of craftwork reflecting the changes of the times.
