국문 초록

세상에는 시간성에 대한 다양한 관점이 있다. 이는 과학, 종교, 철학 등 여러 분야에서 탐구되어오며, 많은 예술가 역시 이를 다양하게 표현해왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 도덕경에 기반하여 시간성을 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 현대 도예 작품을 재해석하여 도자예술의 시간성 표현에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시하고자 한다. 연구 방법 및 범위로 이론적 고찰은 도덕경에 대한 관련 문헌 자료와 선행연구를 수집 및 분석하고, 이에 기반한 사례연구는 현재 활동 중인 국내·외 도예 작가의 작품을 통해 각 사례를 분석하며 재해석한다. 이를 통해 본 연구에서는 도덕경의 시간성이라는 추상적 개념이 도자 분야의 시각적 예술로 연출된다는 가정을 시작으로 현대 도자예술의 사례를 조사한다. 본 연구의 결과로 작가별 특징은 첫째, 작업과정과 형태의 나열로 반복적 시간을 표현하는 박종진, 윤주철, 배세진은 시간의 무위자연을 나타낸다. 둘째, 순환적 조형으로 시간의 순환성을 표현하는 Nuala O’Donvan과 Merete Rasmussen은 음과 양의 상관적 순환을 효과적으로 보여준다. 셋째, 물성을 통해 시간의 축적을 보여주는 Jonathan Mess와 Susan York는 차연적 시간성을 연상시킨다. 이를 토대로 시간성이라는 철학적 개념이 도자예술의 물성과 작업과정을 통해 시각적 연출방식으로 완성되는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 시간성에 따라 분류 및 분석된 작가의 작업행위부터 형태와 구조, 그리고 소성 등 전 작업과정에서 나타나는 개념의 다양한 시각화는 현대도자 표현 영역의 새로운 확장을 가능하게 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

There are various perspectives on temporality in the world. It has been explored in many fields including science, religion, and philosophy. And many artists have also expressed it in various ways. The purpose of this study is to understand the temporality based on Tao Te Ching and to present a new perspective on the expression of the temporality of ceramic art by reinterpreting contemporary ceramic works based on this. In a theoretical study as the method and scope of the study, literature and the precedent studies related to Tao Te Ching were collected and analyzed. And for the case study, each case was investigated and reinterpreted through the works of contemporary ceramists. Through this, this study investigates the case of contemporary ceramic art, starting with the assumption that the abstract concept of the temporality of Tao Te Ching is visualized as art in the field of ceramics. This study arrived at the following finding: contemporary ceramists express them in various interpretations and original formations. As a result of this study, the characteristics of each artist are as follows, First, Park Jong-jin, Yoon Ju-cheol, and Bae Se-jin, who express repetitive time in the sequence of work process and form, represent the nature of time. Second, Nuala O'Donvan and Merete Rasmussen, who express the cyclicality of time in cyclic formations, effectively show the negative and positive correlative circulation. Third, Jonathan Mess and Susan York, which show the accumulation of time through physical properties, are reminiscent of temporality's différance. Based on this, it can be confirmed that the philosophical concept of temporality is visualized through the materiality of clay and work process of ceramic art. In this study, various concept visualizations that appear in the whole work process- the artist's performance, form, structure, and firing- classified and analyzed according to temporality enable a new expansion of the contemporary ceramic expression.
