국문 초록

현재 우리 사회는 고령 인구의 급속한 증가로 다양한 형태의 노인 문제가 발생하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 오늘날 빈번하게 발생하고 있는 노인 자살 문제의 심각성을 인식하고, 이에 대한 해법을 마련하기 위하여 노년소설의 활용 가능성을 탐색해 보았다. 지금까지 한국 문단에서는 다수의 노년소설이 발표된 바 있다. 그동안 발표된 노년소설 가운데 노인 자살을 둘러싼 대내외적 영향 요인과 우리 사회의 특수성이 구체적으로 형상화되어 있는 세 편의 텍스트를 선별하여 오늘날 자살 사건의 원인 규명과 자살 예방 정책에 적극적으로 활용되고 있는 심리부검을 진행하였다. 이문구의 ｢장곡리 고욤나무｣에는 정부 정책으로 인한 농촌 경제의 몰락, 자녀와의 갈등과 같은 다양한 원인이 복합적으로 작용하여 주인공이 극단에 이르게 된 현실이 잘 묘사되어 있다. 해체 위기에 처한 농촌과 농민을 보호할 수 있는 정부 정책의 개선, 자녀관계 만족도 증진을 위한 사회 분위기 조성 등 은퇴 농민에 대한 보호 체계 마련은 농촌 노인의 자살을 방지할 수 있는 중요한 보호 요인으로 작용할 수 있을 것이다. 송하춘의 ｢청량리역｣은 자식으로부터 버림받은 한 노인의 최후를 묘사함으로써 오늘날 우리 사회에서 빈번하게 발생하고 있는 노인 학대의 심각성을 잘 나타내고 있다. 노인이 처한 열악한 경제 여건, 자식에 의한 유기(遺棄) 등 어려운 상황에 놓여 있는 노인을 보호할 수 있는 사회적 안전망을 강화한다면 노인 자살을 방지할 수 있는 중요한 보호 요인이 될 수 있을 것이다. 한편, 박민규의 ｢누런 강 배 한 척｣에는 정년퇴직 후 인생의 덧없음에 힘겨워하는 노년층의 일상이 섬세하게 그려져 있다. 삶에 대한 허무, 치매 걸린 아내에 대한 부양 부담 등으로 자살 충동을 느낀 주인공은 아내와 자살여행을 떠났으나 뜻밖의 사건으로 일상에서 느끼지 못했던 치유와 위로를 경험하게 된다. 이 소설에서 볼 수 있는 바와 같이 은퇴 노인, 치매 가족 등 다양한 위험 요인에 노출되어 있는 우리 시대 노년층을 대상으로 치유와 돌봄 시스템을 강화한다면 자살 충동을 극복하게 하는 주요 보호 요인으로 작용할 수 있을 것이다. 세 편의 텍스트를 대상으로 가상의 심리부검을 진행하는 과정에서 추출해 낸 자살 위험 요인과 자살 보호 요인은 향후 예방적 개입을 위한 다양한 맥락을 제공해 준다. 이는 노년소설이 노인 자살 예방 정책 수립에 유용한 자료가 될 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다. 또한 노년소설을 치유를 위한 교육용 콘텐츠로 활용한다면 우리 사회의 돌봄 시스템 정착과 치유 담론 활성화에 적지 않은 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Currently, in our society, various types of elderly problems are occurring due to the rapid increase of the aging population. In this paper, we have recognized the seriousness of the problem of suicide among the elderly, which is frequently occurring today, and tried to find concrete ways to utilize old age novels in order to come up with a solution. So far, many novels for old age have been published in Korean literature. Among the novels published so far, three texts were selected that specifically embody the psychological and environmental influence factors surrounding suicide by the elderly and the peculiarities of our society. Therefore, a psychological autopsy, which is actively used in today's suicide prevention policies and causes of suicide, was conducted. Lee Mun-gu's ｢Janggok-ri Goyom Tree｣, the subject of this thesis analysis, contains the suicide patterns of the elderly in rural areas, Song Ha-chun's ｢Cheongnyangni Station｣ shows the elderly suicide resulting from elder abuse, and Park Min-gyu's ｢One Yellow River Boat｣ The elderly suicide pattern targeting the retired elderly and dementia family was clearly showing. There were clear signs of suicide among the elderly. If policies to protect the elderly in rural areas, the establishment of a social safety net for the abused elderly, and the strengthening of the healing system for the elderly who are exposed to the retired elderly and their families with dementia, it could act as a major protective factor for overcoming suicidal thoughts. will be. In short, suicide risk factors and suicide protection factors derived from the process of conducting a virtual psychological autopsy on three texts will provide various contexts that enable future preventive interventions. This suggests that old age novels can be useful data for establishing policies to prevent suicide in the elderly. In addition, if old age novels are used as educational content for healing, it is expected that it will be of considerable help in establishing a care system in our society and activating the discourse on healing.
