대학 소양교육 영역의 현황과 발전 방안

국문 초록

본 연구는 동서양의 교육사에서 유래가 깊은 소양교육이 제4차 산업혁명과 AI 시대에 새롭게 조명되 기 시작하였다. 이 연구는 이러한 시대적 흐름에 발맞추어 대학 소양교육의 역할과 의미를 검토하고 소양교육 영역의 위상을 재정립하기 위한 기초 연구로서 수행되었다. 이미 국내 여러 대학에서 소양교육 관련 교과들을 필수 교과로 개설하여 운영하는 등 소양교육의 수요가 증가하는 추세이다. 교양기초교육 원에서는 소양교육 영역을 두어 교양기초교육 표준모델로 제시하였으나 아직 소양교육 영역의 개념 및 의미가 충분히 공유되지 못했다는 문제의식이 있다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 소양교육영역의 위상을 새롭게 정립하기 위한 방향이 무엇인지를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 대학 소양교육의 연구 동향을 분석하였고, 대학 교육 현장의 교양교육 담당자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 추가적으로 교양교육정책 전문가 9인을 대상으로 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 실시하였다. 소양교육 연구 동향을 살펴본 결과, 대학에서 소양교육은 주로 해당 분야나 전공의 기본 혹은 실무 능력 함양과 관련된 것으로 인식하고 있어 인성교육을 지향하는 소양교육 영역과는 괴리가 있었다. 그러나 국내 대학 교양교육 담당자에게 조사한 결과 이미 31.4%가 소양교육 영역을 적용하고 있었고 이전 조사보다 7% 증가하였다. 또한 소양교육 영역의 필요성에 대해 34.3%의 담당자가 필요하다고 응답하여 ‘교양교육표준안’의 교양교육 과정의 기본 틀이 적지 않은 대학에 이미 수용되고 정착 단계에 진입하였음을 확인하였다. 교양교육 정책전문가 FGI 결과는 소양교육의 중요성에는 공감을 하였으나 소양교육 영역으로 구분하는 데는 찬반 의견이 분분하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 후속 연구로서 국내 대학에서 이루어지고 있는 소양교육 영역의 자세한 현황 및 교과 분석이 이루어질 필요가 있음을 제언한다.

영문 초록

In this study, character education, which has a deep origin in the educational history of both the East and West, began to be newly illuminated in the 4th Industrial Revolution and AI era. In line with the trend of the times, this study was conducted as a basic study to review the role and meaning of university character education and to redefine its status. The demand for character education is on the rise, with several universities in Korea already opening and operating subjects related to character education as essential subjects. The Center for Liberal Arts Education has established a literacy education area and has presented it as a standard model for basic liberal arts education. But there is a sense that both the concept and meaning in the education area have not yet been sufficiently disseminated. In light of this problem, this study explored the direction that the newly established status in the character education field is taking. To this end, the research trend of university character education was analyzed, and a survey was conducted on those in charge of liberal arts education in the university’s education field. In addition, a focus group interview (FGI) was conducted for nine liberal arts education policy experts. As a result of examining the research trend of literacy education, universities perceived that character education is mainly related to cultivating basic or practical skills in the chosen fields or majors of the students. Thus, it proved to be different from the area of character education that aims for personality education. However, as a result of a survey conducted by a person in charge of liberal arts education at domestic universities, 31.4% were already applying to the area of character education, and this number increased by 7% from the previous survey. In addition, 34.3% of the respondents said that the basic framework of the liberal arts curriculum of the “Standards Plan” was already accepted and had entered the settlement stage at many universities. As a result of the FGI, a liberal arts education policy expert sympathized with the importance of character education, but there were divided opinions for and against classifying it into character education areas. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that both the details of the current status and a subject analysis in the area of character education being conducted at domestic universities need to be conducted as a follow-up study.
