여성 인물의 질적 전회, 윤리적 주체로 거듭나기

국문 초록

2000년대 이후 한국 소설에서 여성은 희생당하는 삶을 살아가는 데 머물지 않고, 지배담론의 다양한 폭력에 맞서면서 윤리적 주체로 거듭나는 쪽으로 나아간다. 이 점을 고려해 본고는, 남성중심주의와 가부장제 모순은 물론이고 지배담론의 제반 모순을 입체적이고 다차원적으로 접근해 이를 소설화하는 단계, ‘타자를 살리는 윤리’를 지향하는 윤리적 주체로서의 여성 인물을 치열하게 모색하고 또 그런 인물을 형상화하는 방향으로 질적 전회를 꾀하는 단계를 오늘날 여성 문제를 다루는 소설이 나아갈 방향이라 판단하였다. 이런 관점에서 다음 두 작품에 주목하였다. 이혜경의 「그리고 축제」는 열두 살에 성폭행을 당한 ‘나’를 화자로 내세워 가부장제와 남성중심주의를 일차적으로 비판하고 있다. 나아가 이 작품은 한국에서 인도네시아로의 공간 이동과 병치를 통해, 성폭력 문제를 지배담론의 또다른 폭력, 가령 부패한 정부와 권력 집단, 반체제 집단의 폭력 등과 연결해 그 모든 폭력이 동질적임을 강조하고, 한국과 아시아에서 그러한 폭력으로 인해 희생당하는 여성은 물론이고 여러 소수자들을 문제 삼으면서, 이들이 비폭력적 연대를 통해 타자의 윤리를 살리는 윤리적 주체로 거듭남을 다루고 있다. 김인숙의 「바다와 나비」는 과거 군사독재정권 하에서 민주화 운동을 주도하였고, 세계화 담론이 지배하는 2000년대에는 아들을 ‘세계인’으로 만들기 위해 중국으로 건너온 여성 인물 ‘나’를 화자로 내세워, 지배담론의 여러 형태의 폭력을 비판하면서, 인간다운 삶을 지향하는 반성적 주체로 거듭나는 과정을 보여줌으로써, 여성 문제를 다루는 소설의 지평을 심화, 확장하고 있다.

영문 초록

Since the 2000s, in Korean novels, women do not stop at living a life of sacrifice, but move toward becoming an ethical subject by confronting various violence in the dominant discourse. Considering this, this paper judged that the novel’s direction is to take a three-dimensional and multidimensional approach to the contradictions of masculinity and patriarchy, as well as to fiercely seek female figures as ethical subjects aiming for “ethics to save others.” From this point of view, this paper paid attention to the following two works. Lee Hye-kyung’s “And, Festival” primarily criticizes patriarchy and male-centeredism by putting “I,” who was sexually assaulted at the age of 12, as the speaker. Furthermore, this work emphasizes that all violence is homogeneous by linking the issue of sexual violence from Korea to Indonesia, such as violence from corrupt governments, power groups, and dissidents. In addition, while taking issue with not only women victims of such violence in Korea and Asia, but also with several minorities, it deals with them being reborn as ethical subjects that revive the ethics of others through non-violent solidarity. Kim In-sook’s “Sea and Butterfly” features a female figure who participated in the democratization movement under the military dictatorship in the past, and moved to China in the 2000s when globalization discourse dominated, she to make her son a “world person.” It is deepening and expanding the horizon of novels dealing with women’s issues by criticizing various forms of violence in the dominant discourses and showing the process of being reborn as a reflective subject aiming for a human life.
