국문 초록

본 연구는 타이포그래피 디자인 요소를 의자디자인에 적용하는 방식의 가능성을 확인하고 작품제작의 과정을 탐구하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 디자인 분야의 세분화는 더 많은 발전을 이룰 수 있었으며, 한 분야의 발전된 디자인 요소는 타 분야에 주요 디자인 소재로 사용될 수 있다. 타이포그래피는 디지털화 과정으로 체계화 되었고 일부 단순화 되는 과정을 거쳤다. 그러나 필기체는 다양한 곡선의 조화로 이루어져 있어 디지털화 과정을 거치면서도 그것만의 특징을 담기 위해 다양성을 내포하고 있다. 따라서 다른 분야의 소재가 될 수 있는 풍부한 요소를 품고 있다. 반면 의자는 입체의 오브제로 기능성과 심미성의 두 가지를 담고 있다. 심미성의 표현은 곡선의 조화로 만들어지는 입체의 모습이고, 기능성은 그 조화로 만들어지는 구조라 말할 수 있다. 따라서 타이포그래피를 사용하여 가구를 제작한 사례를 분석하고 방향성을 설정한다. 연구자는 타이포그래피 자체를 디자인에 활용하는 방식을 지양하고 요소의 조합으로 의자 디자인을 완성하는 방식으로 설계를 진행한다. 따라서 타이포그래피의 직접적인 표현이 아닌 곡선의 조합으로 만들어진 구조와 아름다움이 표현된 의자를 디자인하고 제작한다. 작품제작 과정에서는 실물 프로토타입으로 기능성과 심미성을 확인하고, 수정 보완하여 최종 작품을 제작한다. 이는 의자디자인에 타이포그래피의 요소를 결합한 새로운 디자인 방법이라는 점에서 의의를 갖으며 이론에서 탈피한 작품제작으로 확인하고 있다. 향후 후학들에게 방식의 제안과 더불어 제작 기술 및 정보의 기회가 될 것으로 예상한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to check the possibility of applying typography design elements to chair design and to explore the process of making works. The subdivision of the design field could be further developed, and the developed design element in one field can be used as a major design material in other fields. It was systematized as a digitization process of typography and went through some simplification processes. However, calligraphy is made up of a harmony of various curves, so while going through the digitization process, diversity is included in order to contain its unique characteristics. Therefore, it has abundant elements that can be used as materials for other fields. On the other hand, a chair is a three-dimensional object, containing both functionality and aesthetics. It can be said that the expression of aesthetics is a three-dimensional figure created by the harmony of curves, and functionality is the structure created by the harmony. Therefore, the researcher analyze cases of furniture making using typography and set the direction. The researcher avoids using typography in design and proceeds with designing in a way that completes the design of the chair by combining elements. Therefore, the researcher design and produce a chair that expresses the structure and beauty made by a combination of curves rather than a direct expression of typography. In the production process, the actual prototype is used to check the functionality and aesthetics, and to make corrections and supplements to produce the final work. This is significant in that it is a new design method that combines elements of typography with chair design, and it is confirmed as a work production by breaking away from theory. It is expected that it will be an opportunity for production technology and information along with suggestions of methods to future students.
