국문 초록

서구의 스팀펑크(steampunk) 문화는 2000년대 이후 인터넷과 통신의 발달로 우리 곁에도 가까이 다가왔다. 소설에서 시작된 이 장르는 영화와 애니메이션으로 확산하였다. 이후 패션과 주얼리에서도 스팀펑크를 접할 수 있게 되었다. 학문적으로는 2010년을 전후해 문학, 영상, 디자인 전반에 걸쳐 스팀펑크에 관한 연구가 활발해지기 시작했으나 아직 주얼리에 관한 연구는 많지 않다. 이에 본 논문에서는 7권의 단행본에서 추출한 266점의 스팀펑크 주얼리를 분석하는 작업을 하였다. 스팀펑크 주얼리의 특성을 연구하기에 앞서 스팀펑크의 개념에 대해 알아보고 스팀펑크가 확산하는 과정을 조사하였다. 그다음 스팀펑크 주얼리의 특성에 대해 분석하였고, 분석의 과정은 총 3단계로 이루어졌다. 첫 번째로 스팀펑크 주얼리를 5가지의 아이템으로 분류해서 아이템별 특성을 알아보았다. 두 번째로 전체 주얼리들의 재료적 특성에 관한 분석을 하였다. 재료의 분석은 금속재료, 파운드 오브제(found object) 그리고 기타재료들로 나누어 분석하였다. 세 번째로는 주얼리에 쓰인 재료들의 분석을 통해 스팀펑크 주얼리에 나타난 의미와 상징들에 대해 고찰해 보았다. 이러한 분석과 고찰을 통해 스팀펑크 주얼리에는 기계 미학, 향수 그리고 헌사를 주제로 한 작품들의 유형이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 주얼리 제작자들이 스팀펑크 주얼리를 통해 표현하고자 하는 바를 유추해볼 수 있었다. 또한, 이번 연구가 스팀펑크 주얼리를 감상하거나 제작하는 데에 도움이 되었으면 한다.

영문 초록

Western culture Steampunk has come close to us with the development of the Internet and communication since the 2000s. Steampunk, which started in novels had spread to films, animation. It has also become available in fashion and jewelry. Research of steampunk on literature, video, and design has been active since the 2010s, but there are still few studies on jewelry. Therefore, in this paper, 266 pieces of steampunk jewelry extracted from seven books were analyzed. In the theoretical background, the concept of steampunk and the spreading process of steampunk was investigated. In the body, the characteristics of steampunk jewelry were analyzed, and the analysis process consisted of three steps. First, steampunk jewelry was classified into 5 items and the characteristics of each item were investigated. Second, the material properties of all jewelry were analyzed. The analysis of materials was divided into metal materials, found objects, and other materials. Third, through the analysis of materials used in jewelry, the meanings and symbols appearing in steampunk jewelry were examined. Through this analysis and consideration, it was found that there are types of works with the themes of mechanical aesthetics, nostalgia, and tribute in steampunk jewelry. Through this study, it was able to infer what makers wanted to express through steampunk jewelry. It is also hoped that this study will help appreciate or make steampunk jewelry.
