국문 초록

한국 사회의 심각한 문제 중 하나는 ‘자살’이다. OECD 국가 최고의 자살률이라는 오명을 가지고 있는 것은 물론이거니와 더욱 심각한 것은 2013년까지 자살률이 감소하지 않고 지속적으로 증가해 왔다는 점이다. 또한 청소년 자살률 역시 OECD 국가 중 최고를 유지하고 있다. 이러한 현실에도 불구하고 대다수의 사람들은 자살이라는 용어를 언급하는 것조차 기피하고 있으며, 이러한 현실 및 사안을 지극히 개인적인 차원의 문제로 인식하고자 하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 이러한 현실 속에서 과연 자살이 개인을 사회적 차원의 문제로 인식하며, 자살 예방을 위하여 사회와 교회, 교육이 해야 하는 역할은 무엇이 되어야 하는가 하는 질문에서 본 연구를 출발한다. 먼저 자살의 원인 및 현상에 대한 다양한 접근―심리학적, 사회학적, 생물학적, 정신의학적, 영적가치관적 등―의 차원에서 살펴보며 특별히 기독교교육적 접근을 위하여 자살에 대한 신학적 이해를 살펴보았다. 그리고 오늘 한국 사회의 자살의 현황을 통계청의 통계 분석을 중심으로 성찰하여 자살 예방의 사회학적, 교육학적인 접근의 근거들을 제시하였으며, 또한 현재 이루어지고 있는 자살 예방 활동 등 국내 ․ 외적으로 살펴봄으로서 향후 자살 예방 교육이 가져야 하는 지향점과 보완점을 제시하고자 한다. 이러한 현상 분석을 통하여 기독교교육에서 지향해야 하는 자살 예방 교육의 궁극적 목표를 생명존중 사회 형성으로 두고 이를 위하여 생명존중 인식의 고양, 자살에 대한 편견 및 선입견 제고, 교회교육 및 신학교육에서 생명보듬 교육 확대, 자살 유가족에 대한 목회적 돌봄 및 치유, 자살 예방 교육을 위한 교재 개발 및 전문가 양성, 자살 예방을 위한 사회정책 수립의 공공신학적 관여, 인간 존중을 위한 소통 및 배려, 공감교육 강화 등을 제안한다.

영문 초록

Suicide has become one of the most serious problems in Korean society. Unfortunately, Korea has the worst suicide rate on re-cord in the developed world, which has increased continuously from 2000 to 2013. Not only that, the suicide rate of young peo-ple is also the highest among OECD countries. But even within the harsh reality of this growing problem, many people do not want to mention the word “suicide”, and tend to regard this so-cial phenomenon as an individual problem. Therefore, this re-search starts with questions such as: how can the problem of suicide be understood as social problem? And, what should be the role of society, church, and education in order to prevent this phenomenon of continual suicidal attempts? This research looks at suicide from psychological, social, bio-logical, psycho-medical, and spiritual perspectives. In addition, it looks at suicide from a theological perspective in order to find solutions according to Christian educational point of views. In doing so, the data and statistics of suicide in Korean society are evaluated in order to suggest theoretical rationales for socio-logical and educational approaches. Overall, this research at-tempts to provide more comprehensive solutions to develop suicide prevention programs by giving attention to current pre-vention programs both in Korean society and abroad. Through this analysis of reality, this research seeks to find ideas and develop an understanding that will help Christian education promote the ultimate purpose of creating suicide prevention programs. In this paper, the promotion of respecting life and elimination of misunderstandings concerning suicide and men-tal illness will be pursued. Also suggested is the expansion of life-embracing education, pastoral care, recovery programs for the bereaved, development of training curriculum, providing of training experts, establishing social policy in terms of public in-tervention, communication of care and respect for one another, and empathy education.
