역사적 문제로서 기독교대안교육

국문 초록

본 연구는 서양교육사적 시각에서 주목할 만한 현상인 “대안교육운동”에 있어 기독교가 가지는 의미 관련성을 밝히기 위한 것이다. 이는 대안교육운동이 상당부분 기독교 신앙인들에 의해 촉발되었음과, 아울러 그러한 대안학교들에서 이루어지는 기독교종교교육이 성격상 기존의 기독교종립학교와는 다른 면모를 보여왔음을 뜻하는 것이다. 기독교종립학교(christian Religious School)면서도 대안교육을 표방하는 학교, 즉 “기독교종립대안학교”(Christian Religious Alternativschool)의 경우도 있는데, 여기서 그러한 문제의 성격은 보다 명백히 드러난다. 이는 서양에서 뿐 아니라, 태동된지 이제 십여년 정도 밖에는 되지 않은, 그러나 그간 상당한 파급력을 가지고 빠르게 확산되어 온 우리나라 대안교육운동의 경우에서도 마찬가지이다. 동서양 대안교육 연구 영역에서 이 주제는 지금까지 그리 심도있게 다루어지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 일단 서양에서 이루어진 주요한 면모를 밝히는데 초점을 맞추었다. 먼저 대안교육운동의 역사적 전개과정을 살핀 후, 본 주제는 이를 배경으로 기독교대안교육 내지 기독교종립대안학교 사례를 들어 살피고자 했다. 그 주요한 사례들이란 예컨대 전원학사(Landerziehungsheim)의 종교수업, 발도르프 학교(Waldorfschule)의 자유종교교육(free religious education), 마리아 몬테소리Maria Montessori)의 종교교육, 덴마크의 자유교육(friskole in Denmark)에서의 자유종교교육, 현대적 기독교종립대안학교인 카알 요제프 라이프레히트 학교 (Carl-Joseph-Leiprecht-Schule)의 자유종교교육 등이나, 지면상 덴마크와 현대적 기독교종립대안학교 사례에 국한 하였다. 결론 부분에서는 대안교육운동 전반에서 문제시 되는 몇몇 쟁점들을 거론하고, 또 그 맥락에서 대안교육과 기독교종교교육간의 관계가 가지는 역사적 의미를 간추려 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the evolution, characteristics, and major issues in the fast expanding alternative education in Korea since the mid 1990s. In Korea, such alternative education has been mostly a practical education movement rather than an academic exercise. In this vein, this study is going to clarify the concept of alternative education through a theoretical investigation. Two distinctive practical modes are dealt with at this point. One is an alternative school beyond the public education system and the other is the one goes in and out of the public education structure. The researcher of this study focuses on some current debatable issues and tasks based upon each alternative education s philosophical points and features implied in their course of their process of evolution. For the study, the truthfulness of education/alternative education and true education /the definition of alternative education/early models of alternative education/ small schools /the foundation of alternative schools and public education/freedom in alternative schools/hastily founding of alternative schools/lack of educational preparation/control system and communication/minority are discussed. This historiographical study, the researcher attempts to present a different perspective from somewhat biased and limited approaches to alternative education in fields. It is expected that various alternative education topics are to be spot-lighted in the broad range and properly encourage meaningful communications through this study.
