국문 초록

최근 다양한 예술 분야에서 다채로운 소재나 매체의 활용으로 표현의 범주가 넓어지고 자유롭고 예술적인 표현이 지향되면서 주제나 개념, 감정의 표현이 확대되고 있다. 조형 예술의 많은 분야에서 다양한 재료의 활용은 소재 자체로서의 가치에서 개념적 가치를 표상하는 물건으로 그 의미를 변화시켰으며 새로운 재료와 기술의 예술적 잠재력으로 표현의 영역을 확장했다. 현대 미술에 활용되는 다양한 소재 중 합성수지는 지난 세기 50년대 이후 등장한 대표적인 신소재이며, 그중에서도 실리콘(silicone)은 인체에 무해하고, 유동성이 있으며, 착색이 용이하고, 이형성이 뛰어난 특징을 가지고 있다. 이러한 속성들에 의해서 다양한 조형 가능성을 인정받고 있으며, 예술계뿐만 아니라 사회 다양한 분야에서 널리 활용되고 있다. 본 연구는 실리콘의 재료 특성을 고찰하고, 조형물 제작에 많이 활용되는 실리콘 몰드(mold)의 대표적인 두 종류, 축합형 실리콘(Tin-cure silicone)과 부가형 실리콘(Platinum-cure silicone)의 물성을 분석하고 활용성에 대해 분석하였다. 또한, 레진, 실리콘, 향초, 비누 등 일상 사물과 합성수지 재료를 중심으로 실리콘 몰드의 종류별 활용할 수 있는 소재와 수축률에 따른 오차 범위 및 경화 불량의 원인에 대하여 살펴보았다. 기능적, 표현주의적 재료로서 조형예술 분야 및 디자인 제작과정에서도 모형 제작 용도로 많이 사용하고 있는 실리콘은 앞으로 활용이 더욱 기대되는 소재라고 할 수 있다. 그 특성을 고찰하여 맞는 사용범위와 방법 등을 알아보고, 조형물 제작과정에 적절한 몰드 종류 및 활용방안을 제시한다. 이를 통해 다양한 소재의 활용 범위를 넓혀 재료적 표현 영역의 확장 가능성을 제시한다.

영문 초록

Recently, the use of various materials and media in different art fields has widened the category of expression and has expanded the expression of themes, concepts, and emotions as without boundaries and artistic expressions are oriented. The use of various materials in many fields of formative art has changed its meaning from the value of the material itself to the object representing the conceptual value and has expanded its scope of expression with the artistic potential of new materials and technologies. Among the use of multiple materials in modern art, synthetic resin has emerged since the 50s of the last century, and silicone has been widely used in various ways because of its harmless to the human body, liquidity, easiness to color, and it is easily detached. These attributes recognize the infinite possibilities of formative art and are widely used in various fields of society as well as in art. This study considered the material properties of silicone, and analyzed the two typical types of silicone molds widely used in the fabrication of objects which are the tin-cure silicone, and the platinum-cure silicone properties, and analyzed their usability. It also explored the allowable error and causes of curing defects according to the shrinkage rate and materials available for each type of silicone mold, focusing on objects such as resin, silicone, scented candle, and soap. Silicone, which is a functional and expressive material and is often used for modeling in the field of formative art and design production, is expected to be used in the future. The scope, methods, etc. of appropriate use shall be recognized by considering its characteristics, and the types and utilization of molds appropriate for the process of making sculptures shall be presented. Through this, it present the possibility of expanding the area of material representation by expanding the scope of utilization of various materials.
