일본 현대소설의 소수자성과 혐오

국문 초록

본 논문은 일본 현대소설의 소수자성과 혐오의 관련 양상을 LGBT와 노인에 주목해 고찰하였다. 후시미 노리아키와 다와다 요코의 소설에서 공통적으로 발견되는 것은 ‘뒤섞임’이다. 하지만 그 뒤섞임의 본질은 상이하다. 후시미의 소설에서는 공동체의 규범에 얽매이지 않는 개체성과 이질적인 소수자 간의 연대가 LGBT와 노인에게 가해지는 혐오를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 제시된다. 문제는 그 과정에서 누락되는 의외의 지점이 있다는 사실이다. 소설은 근대 일본의 전쟁을 탈역사화하는 역사수정주의 관점에서 주체와 타자, 가해와 피해관계를 무화시키는 방식으로 사유한다. 소수자 인정 운동과 정체성 정치를 위한 개체성 강조의 짝패가 탈역사화라면 이는 자기모순적이다. 자기혐오를 타자소외로 전유하는 이러한 뒤섞임의 방식은 혐오의 정동을 고착화할 우려가 있다. 반면 다와다 요코의 소설 『헌등사』속 노인은 혐오의 대상이 아니다. 대재해의 영향으로 병약한 기형 신체로 태어난 아이들을 개호하는 노인들은 더 이상 취약하고 의존적인 존재가 아니다. 그들은 노동의 주체로서 가정과 사회 모두에서 핵심 구성원이다. 노인과 아이의 위치가 역전되고 인간과 비인간의 신체가 뒤섞이고 남녀의 성이 넘나드는 포스트휴먼적 신세계는 일견 디스토피아로 보이지만, 소수자가 차이를 넘어 서로의 역할을 나누는 세상은 오히려 유토피아에 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 유연한 마음과 신체로 안과 밖의 경계를 넘어 뒤섞이는 『헌등사』의 세계는 탈중심화된 연대의 가능성을 보여준다. 그곳에서 혐오는 관리 혹은 극복의 대상이 아니라 서로 껴안고 아우르는 것이다. 이럴 때 혐오 존재는 소수자성에 매몰되는 타자화의 대상이 아니라 소수자 자신을 구성, 재구성, 탈각해 가는 연대의 장의 주체가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the related aspects of minority and disgust in Japanese contemporary novels, focusing on LGBT and the elderly. What is commonly found in the novels of Noriaki Fushimi and Yoko Tawada, the works is “mixing”. However, the nature of the mixing is different. In Fushimi s novel, individuality unconstrained by community discipline and solidarity between disparate minorities are presented as a way to overcome the disgust inflicted on LGBT and the elderly. The problem is that there are unexpected points that are missing in the process. The novel is based on a way that negates the relationship between the subject and the other, the perpetrator and the victim from the perspective of historical revisionism that dehistorifies the war in modern Japan. If the pair of minority-recognition movements and emphasis on individuality for identity politics are dehistoricization, this is self- contradictory. This mixed method that appropriates self-loathing as the alienation of the other has a concern that the affects of disgust is fixed. On the other hand, the elderly in Yoko Tawada s novel “The Emissary” is not the object of disgust. The elderly who care for children born with sick deformed bodies due to the effects of a catastrophe are not vulnerable and dependent. They are key members of both the home and society as the subjects of labor. The post-human new world, in which the position of the elderly and children is reversed and the human and non- human bodies are mingled, seems to be a dystopia, but the world in which minorities share their roles beyond differences seems more like utopia. The world of “The Emissary”, which is mixed across the boundaries with a flexible mind and body, shows the possibility of decentralized solidarity. There, disgust is not something to be managed or overcome, but to embrace each other. In this case, the loathsome beings can become the subject of the field of solidarity that constitutes, reconstructs, and disengages the minority itself, rather than the object of otherization buried in minority character.
