국문 초록

본 연구는 지식 기반 사회에 요구되는 교양교육의 창안을 위해 현시대 상황을 반영하는 교양교육의 내용과 방법에 대해서 6명 전문가의 의견을 분석하였다. 지식 기반 사회에 적합한 교양교육의 쇄신을 위한 교양교육 내용 구성에 대하여 전문가들에게 설문지로 질문하였고 응답 결과를 분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, ‘21세기 교양인’이란 인문학과 과학을 융합한 지식으로 글로벌한 세계에서 어학 실력을 바탕으로 능숙한 의사소통을 할 수 있는 사람으로 정의되었다. 둘째, 교양교육을 위해 대학이 역점을 두어 개발해야 하는 능력으로는 바른 판단을 내릴 수 있는 비판적 사고와 의사소통 능력이었다. 교양교육을 위한 적당한 방법으로는 주입식 교육에서 벗어나 학생들이 직접 참여하고 경험할 수 있는 프로젝트 기반 수업, 플립러닝, 그리고 토론 수업 등이었다. 셋째, 교양수업을 직접 진행하면서 느낀 개선점으로는 교수자 외에 보조 인력이 충분히 필요하나 현실적으로 힘든 경우가 많으므로 이에 대한 준비가 필요하며 힘든 과정을 통해 개발한 수업이라 할지라도 학습자와 교수 모두에게 만족감을 주는 것이 아니므로 성찰을 통해 꾸준히 개선해 나가야 한다는 것이다. 수업이 진행되면서 단기간에 큰 성과가 없더라고 학생들을 격려하며 지켜보며 처음에 세운 목표를 수정해나가는 유연성도 필요하다고 했다. 이 연구를 통해 지식기반사회의 교양교육은 빠른 변화가 진행되는 디지털 사회에서 인류의 여러 경험과 지식을 이해하며 동시에 새로운 것을 수용하는 균형감을 가진 세계적 시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 하며 단기간에 성과를 추구하기 보다는, 평생 학습능력을 지닌 균형 잡힌 교양인을 양성하는 것이 목적임을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the opinions of six experts on the contents and methods reflecting the current educational situation for the development of general education required in a knowledge-based society. These experts responded to a questionnaire pertaining to this problem. The implications were analyzed and discussed based on the results of the questionnaire. The study obtained the following results: First, those who are deemed ‘21st Century cultured’ were defined as people who had proficient communication competence with their foreign language skills, combined with a knowledge of the humanities and sciences in the milieu of a global world. Second, capabilities which universities should emphasize for developing college general education were critical thinking and communication skills, as well as the ability for students to make decisions. The experts chose project-based lessons, ‘flipped learning’ and discussion activities as the proper methods for general education in college. These methods allow for college students to participate and experience class in a more direct manner, and to also avoid ‘cramming’ in their education. Third, the improvements that an expert required in conducting general classes was that he or she needed enough teaching assistants, although this is often impractical. Therefore, preparation was stressed as a working solution. Moreover, even when the classes were developed through complicated processes, both learners and professors did not always seem to be satisfied with them. So, both educators and students should try to steadily improve the educational process and experience through reflection. Futhermore, if classes do not produce the expected results in a short period of time, the instructors should have the flexibility to revise their initial goals while encouraging students. Based on these results, one may conclude that the general education of a knowledge-based society aims to develop college students into global citizens with a sense of balance. Further, it aims to help them to better understand the various experiences and accumulated knowledge of society, and to embrace new things and challenges in a rapidly changing digital era. In short, the goal of general education is to cultivate a balanced and cultured people with lifelong learning abilities, rather than citizens who are merely pursing achievements for short term benefits.
