法器에서 內丹까지 — 중국 서사 속 ‘劍’의 의미

국문 초록

본고에서는 중국 서사 속에 보이는 劍이 지닌 의미에 대해 도교의 法器, 외단의 방법인 劍解, 도교의 무술 수련인 劍術, 내단의 과정인 慧劍의 주조 등으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 검은 중국 고대부터 兵器로 사용되어 사람을 죽이고요괴를처치하는凶物로써 원시巫術에서 기능했다. 이후 도교라는 토착 종교가 생겨나면서 검은 자연스럽게 요괴를 처단하는 도교의 法器가 되었다. 또한 검을 주조하는 방법이 단약을 제조하는 방법과 비슷해서 구리, 철 등 재료의 배합뿐만 아니라 하늘과 땅의 기운, 인간의 기운, 바람, 불, 화로 등을 잘 조절해야 하는 일이었고 게다가 검이 가진 飛騰의 이미지로 인해 검을 이용해 신선이 되는 劍解의 방법이 나타났다. 검은 또한 도교의 수련과도 결합해서 劍仙이라는 형상을 만들어냈는데, 검선은 검을 잘 다룸으로 인해 정의를 실현할 뿐만 아니라 수련을 통해 세속적 욕망과 인간의 감정을 끊어내기도 했다. 송원대에 이르면 이단보다 내단의 방법이 더욱 보편화되면서 수련을 통한 번뇌와 갈등, 고민을 제거하는 慧劍을 만들어냈고 몸속에서 검을 주조하여 신선이 되는 것을 도우며 중국 서사 속에서 다양하게 표현되었다.

영문 초록

In this paper, we divided the meaning of the sword in the Chinese narrative into tools of Taoism, methods of Taoist external alchemy, martial arts training, and methods of inner alchemy. Sword was used as a tool to kill people since ancient China, so it became a tool of Taoism to kill evil. In addition, Jianjie(劍解), which is also a method of Taoist external alchemy, had to control the energy of the sky, wind, fire, and metal, so it was similar to make pills of immortality. the image of go up to heaven, which sword possesses, created a way to use the sword to become a immortal. Sword also combined with martial arts narratives to create a figure called expert fencer, which not only served justice by handling swords well, but also cut off worldly desires and human emotions through training. When Song-Yuan dynasty was reached, method of inner alchemy became more common than the method of external alchemy. forging the Huijian(慧劍) in the human body through Taoist training to eliminate suffering, conflict, and anxiety became a process of the inner alchemy toward immortality. These various swords’ meanings and images, which are deeply related to Taoism, have been used in Chinese narrative to create fantastic and mysterious stories, and have been continuously reproduced in martial arts and ghost stories until now, appearing in various forms in cultural contents.
