영화 <좌우> 속 등장인물들을 통해 본 질병과 인간 삶에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

영화 <좌우>는 각자 새로운 가정을 꾸린 이혼한 부부가 백혈병에 걸린 딸을 살리기 위해 세상의 윤리적, 도덕적 상식을 뛰어넘는 선택을 하며 주변 인물들을 딜레마와 아이러니가 가득한 갈등 속으로 끌어들이는 이야기를 그리고 있다. 이 때문에 중국의 기존 연구는 주로 영화 속의 윤리적 문제에 관한 논의에 치중하고 있어, 인간의 가치관에 영향을 주고 극단적인 삶의 방식을 선택하도록 하는 질병이 인간 삶에 미치는 영향에 대해 심도 있는 분석을 하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본고는 기존 연구에서 다루지 않았던 이 영화 속 질병과 인간 삶의 문제에 주목하였다. 연구자는 이 영화의 갈등과 서사가 자식의 질병으로 인해 발생하고 주인공이 이를 해결해 나가는 과정에서 중국의 전통적 가치관과 인식이 크게 작용한다고 보았다. 자식의 질병으로 인해 영화 속 등장인물들은 가치관과 삶이 변화하는데 이러한 변화는 자발적 혹은 비자발적으로 일어나고 그 과정에서 등장인물들은 갈등하고 대립한다. 영화에서 자식의 질병으로 야기되는 인물의 갈등과 대립적 관계의 형성은 단순히 생명과 윤리의 대립 구도만으로 환원되지 않는다. 등장인물들 사이의 갈등은 인물들이 중시하는 감정의 여러 결 사이의 가치 충돌을 보여주며, 등장인물들 사이의 관계에서 가치관 전복과, 인물이 가지고 있는 상징적 의미와 기존의 관념적 이미지의 대립 등 복잡한 양상을 초래하기 때문이다. 따라서 본고는 질병이 초래하는 등장인물들 사이의 갈등에 초점을 맞춰 각 인물이 추구하는 가치가 어떻게 충돌하는지 분석한 다음, 등장인물들 사이의 관계에서 어떻게 가치관이 전복되고 이미지가 대립하고 있는지 고찰하였다. 또한, 영화의 설정과 장치를 분석하여 이러한 설정과 장치들이 어떠한 상징적 의미를 지니고 있으며, 인물의 어떠한 심리와 변화를 암시하고 있는지 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

The film, “Left Right”, tells a story of a divorced couple, each with a new family, making a choice that goes beyond the ethical and moral common sense to save a daughter with leukemia and draws the people around them into a conflict full of dilemma and irony. For this reason, existing studies in China are mainly focused on discussions on ethical issues in the movie, so we could not improve an in-depth analysis on the effects of diseases that affect human values and lead to drastic choices on their lifestyle. Therefore, this paper focuses on the problems of human life and diseases in this film that were not covered in previous studies. The researcher saw that the conflicts and narrative of this film are caused by the disease of the child and that the traditional Chinese values and perceptions play a large role in the process of solving the problem by the main character. The set of values and lives of the characters in the movie change due to the child’s disease, and these changes occur spontaneously or involuntarily, and the characters conflict and confront each other in the process. In the film, the conflicts between the characters and the formation of confrontational relationships caused by children’s diseases cannot simply revert to the confrontation between life and ethics. Conflicts between characters show a conflict of values between the various kinds of emotions that each character appreciates, and cause chaotic aspects such as overthrowing values in the relationship between characters, and confrontation between the symbolic meanings of characters and the existing ideological images. Therefore, this paper analyzes how the values pursued by each character collide, focusing on the conflicts between the characters caused by the disease, and then examines how the values are overturned and the images are in conflict in the relationship between the characters. In addition, by analyzing the settings and devices of the movie, I examined what symbolic meanings they have, and how they imply the characters’ psychological changes.
