국문 초록

본고는 <雨天的棉花糖>과 <那个夏季那个秋天>를 대상으로 하여, 남성성이 남성자아의 정체성 구축에 어떻게 작용하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 홍더우와 겅동량은 가부장제에서 규정한 남성성에서 일탈한 개별화된 남성성을 전시한다. 이들의 비극은 두 가지 측면에서 사유할 가치가 있다. 첫째, 지배적 남성성의 해체이다. 이는 두 가지 측면에서 나타난다. 하나는 지배적 남성성이 남성자아를 억압함으로써 실천된다는 것이다. 다른 하나는 지배적 남성성의 구축 여부와는 별개로 나타나는 남성자아의 분열이다. 이는 지배적 남성성의 실현 불가능성, 허상성을 보여준다. 둘째, 이분화된 성별 시스템의 공고함이다. 홍더우의 죽음은 이분화된 성별 구조 안에서 개별화된 남성성을 수용하지 않는 사회문화적 심리를 보여준다. 반면, 겅동량의 자아분열은 개인에게 내면화된 이분화된 성별 인식을 증명한다. 요컨대, 이들의 비극은 이분화된 성별 구조 안에서, 다양한 남성성/들이 문화적으로 재현되는 것과 이러한 다양한 남성성/들이 동일한 가치를 부여받고 수용되는가에 대한 문제는 별개임을 설명한다. 개별화된 남성성을 부여받은 소년들의 ‘남성 되기’ 서사가 보여주는 의미가 여기에 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study explores how masculinity contributes to establish its identity as male subjectivity by observations on <雨天的棉花糖> and <那个夏季那个秋天>. Their tragedies are worthy to be evaluated in two aspects. The first one is the deconstruction of hegemonic masculinity. It appears in two ways. The hegemonic masculinity is practiced by suppressing male subjectivity, and male subjectivity is deconstructed regardless of success or failure in winning hegemonic masculinity. It proves that hegemonic masculinity is unachievable and illusive. The second aspect is the firmness of the bisected gender system. The social and cultural mentality does not accommodate individualized masculinity in the bisected gender system, and it is rigid enough to lead Hong Dewu to his death. On the other hand, Geng Dongliang feels lost because he recognizes his internalized recognition of bisected genders. The tragedies explain that whether various masculinities are practiced in culture or not is one question, and whether the masculinities deserve equal value and get accepted or not is another question in the bisected gender system. As Hong Dewu and Geng Dongliang’s tragedies, the space for various masculinities will get narrower when the subjectivities, which does not be explained as dominant and universal, get suppressed in the processes of becoming males. The writer must have had enough his reasons and meanings for focusing on these particularly non masculine boys, and making narratives on their journeys of becoming a man.
