국문 초록

본 연구는 기업의 소유구조가 장기투자 항목 중 하나인 연구개발 투자에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 가를 분석하였다. 즉, 1997년 말 외환위기 이후 내부경영자의 소유지분 증가에 따라 이들의 위험회피유인이 과연 완화 또는 악화되었는지의 여부를 검증하며 아울러 외부대주주의 소유지분 변화에 따라 기업의 연구개발 투자에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는가를 검증한다. 이러한 검증을 통해서 정부의 소유분산정책의 근거 논리 즉 경제성장의 원동력으로 연구개발과 같은 장기적 고위험투자를 촉진시키기 위해서는 정부가 적극적으로 소유분산정책을 추진하여 대주주의 위험회피유인을 감소시켜야 한다는 것에 대한 정책적 시사점을 제시하고자 하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 실증분석 결과, 내부최고경영자의 소유지분이 증가함에 따라 기업의 연구개발 투자활동은 위축된다는 연구결과를 보이고 있다. 반면에 외부대주주 소유지분과 연구개발 투자에 대한 실증결과에 의하면, 외부대주주 소유지분율이 높아짐으로서 이들 대주주 개인의 富가 특정 기업에 집중 투자되며 결과적으로 기업의 연구개발 투자가 증가하는 현상을 발견하였다.

영문 초록

Prior research found that the various impact of ownership structure on the firm s long term investment decision. The agency problem based on the conflict between management and outside shareholder is presented as a main factor for various impacts. This paper examines the impacts of ownership structure on the R&D investments, one of long term investment. We tested two hypothesis by 969 samples of listed manufacturing firms. The main results are as follows. There is negative negation between the amount of R&D investment and management shareholding rate after controlling other variables, including firm size, operating cash flow, years after IPO and the benchmark industry R&D investment. The risk averting incentives against the portfolio concentration with increase in shareholding rate is dominant. On the other hand, increase in outside shareholding rate causes increase in R&D investments. The more efficient monitoring with increase in outside shareholding rate aligns the interest between outside shareholder and management.
