국문 초록

최근 블록체인기술은 원천적으로 신뢰성이 확보된 정보를 참여자 모두가 공유하는 분산원장 기술에 거래조건을 자율적으로 처리하는 스마트계약이 결합되어 정보의 투명성 무결성·적시성을 제공하며 회계생태계를 혁신적으로 변화시킬 것으로 기대된다. 이에 본 연구는 블록체인기술에 대한 개념과 변천 과정을 소개하여 최근의 사회변화를 인식하고, 이러한 기술을 기반으로 한 회계의 혁명적 변화를 전망하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 블록체인기술의 일반적인 사항과 활용사례를 통한 진화과정을 살펴보고, 이러한 기술의 변화가 회계생태계에 가져올 영향을 회계정보측면과 회계감사측면으로 나누어 전망하였다. 블록체인기술은 경영자의 재량권에서 벗어나 조작이 불가능하고 실시간으로 모든 이해관계자에게 정보제공이 가능하므로, 전통적인 회계가 이루지 못한 정보의 비대칭성 해소와 원천적으로 정보의 신뢰성이 확보된 유용한 정보제공이라는 목적을 근본적으로 달성해 줄 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 이상이 혼란 없이 실현되기 위해서는 블록체인이 가져올 혁명적 변화인 실시간 회계, 맞춤형 재무제표, 상시 자율모니터링의 현실화와 함께 외부감사의 가치제안 재정립, 내부통제 체계 재정립, 회계감사기준 재정립 등에 대한 체계적인 준비가 필요할 것으로 전망한다. 또한, 블록체인 시스템 자체와 운영방식과 지배구조 상의 취약점, 참여자들의 담합이나 권한의 오남용, 스마트계약 코드의 오류 등 기술적인 위험이 존재할 수 있다. 따라서 블록체인과 스마트계약의 신뢰성에 대한 감사와 인증의 필요성이 높아질 것이므로 이를 대비한 전문적인 회계인재를 육성하기 위하여 회계교육의 변화도 적시에 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The blockchain technology provides transparency, integrity and timeliness of information by combining distributed ledger technology, in which all participants have shared fundamentally reliable information, with smart contracts that deal with transaction conditions autonomously, and is expected to revolutionize the accounting ecosystem. This study recognizes the recent social change through the introduction of the concept and transition process of the blockchain technology, and anticipates the revolutionary change of the accounting based on it. We examine the evolution process through the general aspects and use cases of the blockchain technology, and investigate the impact of changes in technology on the accounting ecosystem in terms of accounting information and auditing. Since the blockchain technology cannot be manipulated by management discretion and it is possible to provide real-time information to all stakeholders, it is expected to accomplish goals of solving information asymmetry and providing fundamentally reliable and useful information that traditional accounting system cannot achieve. In order to realize such an ideal without any confusion, we need to systematically prepare for the revolutionary changes that the blockchain will bring, such as real-time accounting, customized financial statements, realization of continuous & autonomous monitoring, re-establishing value proposition of external auditors, re-establishing internal control system and re-establishing audit standards. There may be technical risks such as weakness in blockchain system itself or in operational method and governance structure, collusion and authority abuse of participants, and error in smart contract code. Therefore, the need for auditing and certification of the reliability of the blockchain and smart contracts will increase, suggesting that changes in accounting education are needed in a timely manner in order to foster professional accounting experts.
