교양강좌로서 데이터 리터러시 가능성 탐색

국문 초록

4차 산업혁명을 맞이하면서 인류는 이전의 그 어느 시대보다 데이터의 중요성을 실감하고 있다. 과거와는 비교할 수 없는 방대한 양과 복잡성을 특징으로 하는 빅데이터 환경이 데이터 리터러시가 강조되는 배경이며, 이러한 시대상을 반영하여 교양교육에서도 데이터 생산, 가공, 분석, 활용의 중요성을 인지하고 이와 관련한 역량을 제시할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 선행연구에서 제시된 데이터 리터러시의 개념 및 역량을 고찰하고, 데이터 리터러시와 유사한 의미를 가지는 관련 리터러시 개념들을 정의하며 이들 간의 관계성을 알아본다. 이를 바탕으로 두 가지 주안점을 도출하여 교양교육과의 연계성을 논의하고 교양으로서의 데이터 리터러시 교육 내용을 탐색한다. 데이터 리터러시에 대한 교양교육으로서의 시도는 아직 미흡한 상황이며, 실제 교양교육 현장에서 적용할 수 있는 수업모형 등에 대한 운영 사례는 부족하다. 본 연구에서 소개된 데이터 리터러시 웨비나 운영 사례와 설문 데이터 분석 결과는 향후 수업설계를 위한 참고자료로 활용되기를 바라며, 교양으로서의 데이터 리터러시가 교양교육 수요자들로 하여금 현 시대가 요구하는 보편적인 데이터 활용 능력 및 데이터에 대한 비판적 이해를 갖추도록 돕는 것이어야 함을 주장하면서 향후 이 분야에 대한 지속적인 관심과 후속 연구를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Upon the arrival of the fourth industrial revolution, human beings realize the significance of data more than any previous era. Big data environment characterized by great volume and complexity unparalleled in the past serves as the background for emphasizing data literacy. It is necessary for liberal education to recognize the importance of data generation, process, analysis, and application; and to provide the relevant skills in response to the needs of the time. This study reviewed the literature on the definition and competencies of data literacy; and introduced related literacy concepts that have similar meanings to data literacy and examined their relationship. Based on this literature review, two main points were drawn to discuss the connection with liberal education, and the contents of data literacy education as liberal arts were explored. Nevertheless, the term data literacy and what it refers to are still unfamiliar in the field of liberal arts education, and there are insufficient cases to refer to how it is actually handled in liberal arts education. The webinar introduced in this study and the results of exit survey data analyses are expected to be used as reference for future instructional design. Asserting that data literacy as liberal arts should help liberal education consumers be equipped with critical understanding of data and the ability to use data required by the present age, finally, this study calls for abiding interest and subsequent studies in this realm.
