국문 초록

본 연구는 코르도바에 위치한 대모스크-성당의 건축 특성을 1) 건축 위치와 증축 과정, 2) 건축 구조물, 3) 장식 요소로 분류하여 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 각 요소에서 파악할 수 있는 건축 후원자의 후원 의도와 표출하고자 하였던 목적을 해석하였다. 코르도바 대모스크-성당은 초기 이슬람 세계에서 발달한 건축 요소를 포함하고, 후기 우마이야조만의 독창적 건축 요소를 드러낸다. 특히 전리품(spolia)를 활용한 이중 아치 구조와 두 가지 색감을 교차 적용하여 장식한 요소는 초기 이슬람 세계에서 기인했다 볼 수 있다. 모스크 장식의 주요 구성 요소인 다엽 아치, 말굽 아치는 코르도바 대모스크-성당을 통해 확인할 수 있는 후기 우마이야조의 독창적 건축 요소로 볼 수 있다. 현대 사회와 같이 자신을 표출할 수 있는 요소가 많지 않았던 과거에서 기념비적 건축물은 자신을 표출할 수 있는 가장 강력한 수단이었다. 코르도바 대모스크-성당은 후원자는 자신의 강한 권력과 화려한 건축물을 남길 수 있는 경제력과 정치력을 표출한 건물이고, 나아가 이슬람이라는 종교성을 강조하고 대중에 표현한 건축이다.

영문 초록

This article examines the Great Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba based on 1) location of the mosque and reconstruction,2) structure of the mosque, 3) and decoration sources. It can be the key toexplain the intention and purpose of its patrons. The Great Mosque-Cathedral was constructed with architectural traditions that came from the early Islamic world. Furthermore, they added unique architectural factors to the Great Mosque-Cathedral by using spolia and two-color decoration patterns that originated in the early Islamic world. The main structure and decoration of the Mosque-Cathedral, the cusped-arch and horseshoe-arch, were developed in the later Umayyad dynasty. Unlike now, in the past, there were a few ways to express oneself to the public.. Monumental architecture was one of the most effective methods to express new religions and kingship. The patrons emphasized their powerful authority and financial ability to construct monumental buildings and express the Muslim identity and faithfulness. The Great Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba has played this role to express power and religiosity.
