연세대학교 ‘글쓰기 교육’의 현황과 방향

국문 초록

연세대학교 <글쓰기(작문)> 교육은 2000년도 이전까지 이루어져 왔던 교수자 중심의 일방향 수업( <국어>, <글과 삶>/ <말과 삶>)으로부터 교수자와 학생 상호간에 글쓰기 ‘실습’을 매개로 한 양방향 수업( <글쓰기>)으로 전환하게 되었다. 2000년대부터 이루어지는 새로운 형태의 글쓰기 수업에서 학생들은 글의 구성 방법과 논증 방법, 문장 표현법 등의 글을 쓰고 교수자의 지면·대면 첨삭 교육을 받는다. 이를 바탕으로 특정 주제와 장르에 관한 글을 쓰는 연습을 하면서 향후 전공 학문에서의 학술적인 글을 쓰기 위한 기초 공부를 하고 있다. 글쓰기 교수진은 2000년 이전의 글쓰기 교재인 『대학 작문』(연세대학교출판부, 1972)이나 『글쓰기와 삶』(연세대학교출판부, 1992)의 내용을 혁신적으로 계승하여 『글쓰기』(연세대학교출판부, 2003), 『모든 사람을 위한 과학 글쓰기』(사이언스북스, 2006), 『대학 글쓰기』(삼인, 2008) 등의 교재를 개발하였다. 수준별(외국 학생 대상의 <기초한국어글쓰기>· <글쓰기(특례)>, 국내 학생 대상의 <글쓰기(일반·심화)>), 특성별(전체 학생들을 대상으로 한 <과학 글쓰기>· <고급 실용문 쓰기>), 전공영역별(공통기초 대체 과목인 자유전공의 <학술적 글쓰기>) 등 다양한 강좌를 개발하였을 뿐만 아니라 글쓰기 수업의 수준과 내용을 향상키기 위한 교육 지원의 일환으로 2004년부터는 ‘튜터 제도’를 도입하여 실시하고 있다. 학기를 시작하기 전과 중간에는 워크숍과 콜로키움 같은 행사를 개최하여 교수자들 상호간에 글쓰기 교육 내용과 방법에 대해 토론하고 정보를 교환하고 있다. 향후 연세대학교의 글쓰기 교육은 변화하는 시대 환경에 부응하기 위해 학문 영역별·특성별 강좌 및 학문 융합적 성격의 <글쓰기> 강좌를 개발하여 운영해나가는 동시에, 다매체 시대의 특성을 활용한 새로운 형태의 글쓰기 교육을 지향해 나가야 할 과제를 안고 있다. 학생들이 창의적이고 효율적으로 글쓰기 학습을 할 수 있는 좋은 교육 환경을 조성해나가는 일 역시 관심을 가져야 한다. 여기에 대학 글쓰기(작문) 교육의 성패가 달려 있기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Yonsei University’s writing(composition) education changed it’s direction from being unilateral( , , ), putting professor at the center of lectures before 2000s, to being interactive through the medium of writing practice between the professor and student. Students wrote an organizing method, a reasoning method, and a sentence expression in the revised format of the writing classes which came into effect after 2000, and then they were instructed through paper correction and face-to-face correction by their professor. Based on such writing experience, they practice writing on the specific theme and genre as ground work for academic writing in their major fields study henceforth. Yonsei University’s writing professors developed writing textbooks like Writing(Yonsei University Press, 2003), Science Writing for Everyone(Sciencebooks, 2006), and College Writing(Samin, 2008) that basically follow but revise the contents of College Composition(Yonsei University Press, 1972) and Writing & Living(Yonsei University Press, 1992). In addition, they developed various courses, such as level-differentiated courses( ; designed for foreign students, ; designed for domestic students) purpose-specific courses( ; for students), major-specific courses( for Open Major Students as a substitute subject for general education requirements). Also, they introduced and carried out a ‘tutorial system’ to provide writing education support for the improvement of ability level and writing content in writing classes in 2004. In the beginning and at the midterm of every semester, a workshop and colloquium regarding writing education contents and methods are held as an field for the exchange of educational information between professors on a regular basis.
