국문 초록

이 글은 구병모의 소설 「오토포이에시스」를 통해 인공지능시대의 글쓰기와 문학의 의미에 대해 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 소설은 인간이 문자 능력을 상실하고 글쓰기의 방법을 잊어버린 미래를 배경으로 한다. 인공지능로봇 ‘백지’는 스스로 글쓰기를 행하며 이야기를 생산해내는 자기생성 조직이다. 그는 인간처럼 깊은 고민과 사유를 행하는데, 이야기 생산에 회의를 품게 되고, 이후 세상의 진리를 담아내는 ‘단 하나의 문장’을 찾으려 한다. 인공지능이 글쓰기 능력을 잃은 인간을 대신하여 글을 쓰고 이야기를 만든다는 소설의 상상력은 전복적이며 도발적이다. 소설은 백지가 ‘단 하나의 문장’을 찾아가는 과정을 중심으로 전개되는데, 세상 모든 이야기의 주제를 압축하면서도 그것들과 무관하다는 그 문장은 지극히 모순적이며 이율배반적이다. 그것은 불명확하고 비논리적이며 애매하고 모호한 문학의 성격을 비추는 요소이다. 결국 소설은 자기생성, 자기증식이라는 ‘오토포이에시스’의 의미는 문학 자체에 대한 고민과 회의를 이야기하는 문학 자신임을 말한다. 문학은 스스로에게 끊임없이 질문을 던지며 자신의 본질과 가치를 이야기한다. 이 소설은 문학이 자기 자신을 이야기하는 서사원리, 자기를 서사화하는 이야기 방식을 인공지능로봇의 글쓰기와 단 하나의 궁극의 문장 찾기를 통해 보여준다. 결국 이 소설은 인공지능의 글쓰기에 대한 이야기라기보다는 지금의 인공지능 시대에 문학이 가질 수밖에 없는 고민에 대한 이야기이다.

영문 초록

This article is to examine the meaning of AI writing and literature through Guo Byung-Mo’s novel, Autopoiesis. The background of the novel is the future in which humans lose their ability to write and have forgotten how to write. The artificial robot ‘Baeji’ is a self- producing organization that writes and produces stories. He is deeply troubled and thinks like a human being. Then he has doubts about the production of the story, and later finds a single sentence that contains the truth of the world. The imagination of the novel is subversive and provocative. Because artificial intelligence writes and writes stories on behalf of humans who have lost their ability to write. The story of the novel focuses on the process in which Baekji finds a single sentence. By the way, the sentence, which compresses the themes of all the stories of the world but is irrelevant to them, is extremely contradictory and betrayal. It is an unclear, illogical, obscure character of literature. In the end, this novel says that the meaning of “auto-poiesis,” self-creation and self- proliferation, is literature itself, which talks about worries and conferences about literature itself. Literature constantly asks itself questions about its essence and value. This novel shows the narrative principle that literature tells itself and the narrative way of narrative self through the writing of artificial intelligence robot and finding the ultimate sentence.After all, this novel is not a story about the writing of artificial intelligence, but a story about the worries that literature has in the AI era.
