요양원 노인들의 입소생활 경험에 대한 질적 메타 통합

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 요양원 노인들의 입소생활 경험에 대한 기존의 개별 연구들을 통합·이해하는 것이다. 이에, 질적 메타 통합 방법에 따라 접근하여 8편의 연구들을 선정·종합·비교·통합하였다. 그 결과, 요양원 노인들의 입소생활에서는 입소 동기와 입소 이후의 생활, 요양원에 대한 인식이 그 상위 핵심 개념이 되고 있고, 그 핵심 경험은 자녀들과의 관계성 속에서 구성되고 있는 것으로, ‘자녀들로부터 “고려장”을 당하여 ‘죽음의 대기소’에서 죽어가고 있는 생활’이 되고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 이는 이들의 입소생활에서 ‘이동 후 스트레스 증후군’이 일시적으로 나타나 점차 완화되거나 극복된다고 보는 기존의 국내외 연구들과는 다르게, 입소생활 전 과정에서 ‘일상화’되고 ‘만성화’되고 있는 경향이 강함을 의미하는 것으로 분석되었다. 나아가, 이러한 ‘이동 후 스트레스 증후군의 일상화 및 만성화’는 자녀들과의 관계성이 중심인 생활 속에서 나타난 것으로, 국내 요양원 노인들의 입소생활을 특징짓는 핵심 현상이 되고 있다고 해석되었다. 이에, 이러한 연구결과에 기초하여 노인복지실천에 시사하는 함의를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The aim of the study is to synthesise and understand the life experiences of the elderly in care homes. For the purpose, the qualitative meta-synthesis method was applied to select and integrate eight researches. According to the results, three top key concepts were identified: motivations to enter care homes, life experiences after entering care homes, and awareness on care homes. The key experiences of the elderly in care homes were constructed in relationships with their children: they were perceiving abandonment by their children and were wasting away in the ‘waiting room for death’. Contrary to other national and international analyses conducted on the same subject, the results showed an indication that the relocation stress syndrome is chronic and becomes a part of their everyday life. Furthermore, this analysis concluded that the routinization and chronicization of the relocation stress syndrome was constructed on the perception on their lives, centered around the relationships with their children, and this is a key phenomenon characterizing the lives of the elderly in care homes in Korea. Based on the study results, suggestion was made with implications for social welfare practice for the elderly.
