국문 초록

본 연구는 현역으로 군복무중인 한 병사의 병영생활전문상담을 통한 자아정체성 변화과정에 대한 경험과 그 의미를 Clandinin과 Connelly(2000)가 제안한 3차원적 내러티브 탐구 공간(시간성, 장소, 상호작용) 안에서 분석하고 재구성해 본 것이다. 연구참여자는 입대 전 가난한 가정환경과 부모의 이혼으로 정서적 돌봄을 받지 못하는 환경으로 비롯된 열등감 때문에 친밀한 대인관계 경험을 갖지 못한 상태에서 군에 입대하였다. 이러한 문제로 인하여 군복무 초기 집단생활에 잘 적응하지 못하여 전문상담에 의뢰되었으며 17회기의 상담개입을 통해 <자기 이해 및 수용>, <대인관계 확장 및 의사소통능력 향상>, <진로 탐색과 결정>의 상담 결과를 얻었다. 또한 연구에 참여하면서 그의 자아정체성은 ‘한없이 여린 사슴 한 마리’ 에서 ‘하이에나 무리의 우두머리’로 변화하였고, 현재 전문하사로 역할이 변하면서 ‘용맹하고 허세 없고 정상까지 오르기 위해 노력하는 호랑이’로의 정체성 변화에 대한 경험 이야기를 하고 있다. 본 연구결과는 병사들에 대한 이해와 병영생활전문상담의 임상적 시사점을 제공한다는 점에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed and reconstructed one active-duty soldier’s experience of the process of change in ego-identity through military counseling and its meaning in a three-dimensional narrative inquiry space (Temporality, place, and sociality) proposed by Clandinin and Connelly (2000). Before the research participant joined the army, he had difficulty in building intimate interpersonal relations because of the sense of inferiority from the environments where he did not have enough emotional care due to his poor family background and parents’ divorce. After joining the army he had difficulties in getting adjusted to group life and was referred for specialized counseling From 17 sessions of counseling intervention, the following results of the counseling were obtained: “self-understanding and acceptance”, “expansion of interpersonal relations and enhancement of communication ability,” and “career exploration and decision.” Also, as he participated in the research, his experienced changes in his ego-identity from “one infinitely tender-hearted deer” to “a leader of a pack of hyenas,” and currently, as he took a new role as a professional staff sergeant, he talked about the experience of change in his identity into “a brave tiger without bluffing, and making an effort to get to the summit.” The result of this study has significance in that it helps better understand the soldiers and provides clinical implications for counseling specializing in military life.
