국문 초록

본 연구는 종교 개혁 때 프로테스탄트 신학에서 배제된 미와 예술을 다시 회복하고자 하는 목적에서 이루어졌으며, 이 목적을 위해 두 명의 프로테스탄트 사상가인 쇠렌 키에르케고어(Søren Kierkegaard, 1813-1855)와 폴 리쾨르(Paul Ricoeur, 1913-2005)를 참여시켰다. 키에르케고어는 철학사에서 ‘실존’을 전면에 부각시킨 최초의 사상가이다. 그는 인간의 실존 문제를 앞세우며 형이상학적 사변 시스템을 전복시켰고, 오로지 믿음을 통해 신과 존재에 이르는 길을 열었다. 이 길은 개인의 실존 형태에 따라 다양하게 전개되는데, 미적 실존(aesthetic existence)은 ‘가능성’의 원리로 신과 존재에 이른다. 키에르케고어는 미학으로 하여금 실존의 가능성 영역을 담지하게 함으로써 미적 실존을 신학적 사유의 중심으로 끌어들인다. 그리고 리쾨르는 인간 실존이 미학적 언어를 매개로 신과 존재에 이르는 길을 해석학적 지평에서 연다. 두 사상가를 접목시켜 산출한 ‘미학적 자기됨’(aesthetic self-becoming)의 길은 실존의 가능성 영역으로부터 미학적 언어를 매개로 신과 존재의 현실성으로 이르는 길이다. 이 길의 확보로 철학에서는 “가능과 현실의 새로운 존재론”을 열었고, 프로테스탄트 신학에서는 미와 예술을 회복하는 길을 실존적 해석학적 지평에서 열었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to restore beauty and art that were excluded from Protestant theology during the Reformation. To this end, two Protestant thinkers, Søren Kierkegaard and Paul Ricoeur, got involved. Kierkegaard was a thinker who for the first time in the history of philosophy put existence in the foreground. He overthrew the metaphysical system of speculation by giving existence priority over it and opened the way to reach God and Being only through belief. This path unfolds in different ways according to the different forms of existence of the individual, and aesthetic existence is existence that attains God through “possibility”. Kierkegaard brings aesthetic existence to the center of theology by assigning it the realm of existential possibility. And then Ricoeur opens hermeneutic horizon in his mimesis-theory where one reaches God and Being through aesthetic language. ‘Aesthetic self-becoming’, which was created by combining the two thinkers, is thus the way to achieve the reality of God through aesthetic language. By securing this path, in the philosophy opened up ‘a new ontology of possibility and reality’ and in the Protestant theology a way to restore beauty and art in the horizon of existence.
