국문 초록

이 논문은 한국 민중신학 담론에서 민중이라는 용어가 어떻게 작용하고 있는지를 다룬다. 민중이라는 용어는 민중신학자들이 이론이나 개념보다는 증언에 주력하도록 이끌었다. 또한 민중신학의 구원론인 민중메시아론에서 민중이라는 용어는 민중 현실이 형성하는 장(場)이 그 장속에 끌려들어 온 사람들에게 미치는 작용으로 구원을 이해할 수 있도록 이끌었다. ‘두 이야기의 합류’의 경우에서 보듯이 민중신학은 한국 민주화 운동의 지지 담론의 역할을 하면서도 다른 한편으로는 새로운 장의작용이 감지될 때 기존의 담론을 해체하는 경향을 갖게 되었다. 최근 민중신학은 초기 민중신학의 오클로스론과 바울의 칭의론 관련 논의를 재해석하면서 민주화 이후 체제에서 시민이 주도하여 체제의 자기 정당성에 대한 확신을 더욱 강화함으로써 발생하는 배제를 탐색하는 경향을 발전시켰다. 이런 경향은 체제에서 배제당하는 비시민이 자신들을 표현할 언어 부재를 경험하고 있음을 인식한다. 따라서 앞으로 민중용어를 이해하는 전망도 민중 현실의 장과 그 속에 끌려들어 온 사람들 사이에 명시적인 언어로 재현되지 않는 작용을 탐색해야 할 필요성 위에 구축되어야 한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines how the term Minjung works in the discourse of Korean Minjung theology. The term helped Minjung theologians focus on witnesses rather than theories and concepts. In terms of Minjung Messiah, soteriology of Minjung theology, the term Minjung opened the possibility to understand salvation as the effects in the “field” constructed by Minjung reality. As seen in the “confluence of two stories”, while Minjung theology has the tendency to serve as a discourse supporting the Korean democratization movement, it also deconstructs existing discourses when new interactions between Minjung reality and people are detected. Recent Minjung Theologians reinterpreted the theory on Ochlos and the discussions about Paul’s statement of justification in early Minjung Theology, and developed a tendency to explore the exclusion of non-citizens by Korean post-democratization regime in which citizens take the initiative and have more confidence about their own legitimacy. This tendency recognizes that non-citizens who are excluded from the regime are experiencing lack of language to represent themselves. Therefore, the prospect of understanding the term Minjung should be constructed on the necessity of exploring the interactions between Minjung reality and people attracted into the “field” constructed by the reality, which are not explicitly represented in language.
