국문 초록

<文学全集>という出版様式は、日本独特の出版様式である。 日本における最初の<文学全集>と言えば、概ね、大正(1912年-1926年)末から続々と出版された一冊一円の全集類の円本と見做されている。しかし、本論は、<文学全集>の起源を、その以前の明治時代の＜文学全書＞に遡って浮き彫りした。特に、本論は、明治時代の文学全集のうち、『帝國文庫』について探ってみた。 『帝國文庫(全50卷)』は、明治26年(1893年)から明治30年(1897年)にかけて、明治最大の出版社である博文館から刊行された全集で、人情本、黄表紙、洒落本、滑稽本をはじめ、伝記、軍書、稗史など、江戸時代(1603年-1868年)の作品がほぼ網羅されている。本論は、日本の如何なる歴史的背景から『帝國文庫』が刊行されたのか、その肝心な理由を、時代の動きと関わらせて炙り出した。 その結果、『帝國文庫』が刊行された主な理由は、明治20年代(1887年-1896年)に高まってきた<日本主義>への回帰と深く関わっていることが窺えた。そのような動きに伴い、明治20年代には江戸戯作の復刊が盛んであった。また、當時は、日清戦争開戦(明治27年=1894年)を前にして、国粋主義の勢いが高まっていた時代でもあった。そのような勢いは、<日本 ·日本人の固有性>を見出そうとする動きに繋がり、江戸時代の文学を網羅した『帝國文庫』の出版にまで至る。

영문 초록

This is a study on the “TEIKOKU BUNKO”(all 50 volumes, 1893-1897, Hakubunkan) in the Meiji era. First, I examined the composition and characteristics of “TEIKOKU BUNKO”. Next, I tried to find out about the historical background of the publication of “TEIKOKU BUNKO”. “TEIKOKU BUNKO” contains works from the Edo period(1603-1868), including humanitarian books, biography, and military books. There is a difference when comparing the composition with “NIHON BUNGAKUZENSHO”(all 24 volumes, 1890-1892, Hakubunkan) of Japan’s first complete literature collection. “NIHON BUNGAKU ZENSHO” is the complete collection of Japanese classical literature, but it does not contain works from the Edo period. The reason is that it was difficult to accept the works of the Edo period as excellent Japanese literature. So why was the “TEIKOKU BUNKO” published one after another in the “NIHON BUNGAKU ZENSHO”? The Meiji 20’s(1887-1896) was the time when the reaction to Europeanism in the Meiji 10’s (1877-1886) increased to return to Japan. In addition, at that time, before the NISSHIN(Sino-Japanese) War, the tendency of nationalism increased. It is thought that such movements led to the reprint of Edo-gesaku, and the birth of the “TEIKOKU BUNKO”, which covers literature from the Edo period.
