국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 19세기 후반부터 1차 대전 전야 프랑스 여성 조화공들의 삶과 노동현장을 살펴보려는 것이다. 대부분의 여성조화공들은 의복산업의 성장, 특히 직물로 장식하는 조화산업 분야를 통해 노동시장에 진출하기 시작했다. 이들은 노동과 결혼의 양립 불가능과 함께 독신을 선택하거나 또는 정반대로 결혼을 통해 가정과 일을 결합시켰다. 이러한 여성조화공에 대한 연구는 여성이 가내 산업노동을 선택하게 되는 양상을 이해하는 중요한 단서가 된다. 산업화의 흐름 속에서 가내 산업은 투쟁과 치열한 경쟁을 통해 살아남았고, 최소한의 갈등과 함께 여성이 다양한 역할을 충실히 할 수 있도록 기회를 제공해줄 수 있었다. 그들은 노동을 통해 산업과 가정이라는 두 세계를 다 가질 수 있었으며, 강하고 능력 있는, 훈련이 잘된 도전적이었던 가내에서의 조화제작업은 장인으로서뿐 만 아니라 여성으로서 독립을 허락해주었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the life and labor site of the french women flowermaker from the second half of the 19th century to the eve of the First World War. Most women began to enter the labor market with the growth of the confection industry, especially the artificial flowermaking industry decorated with textile. Because it was impossible to be compatible between labor and marriage, on the one hand, they preferred to choose to be the single women, on the other hand they choose to tie their work with the family by marriage. The study of women flowermaker is an important clue to understand the various aspects that women was obliged to choose the industrial home work. With the current of industrialization, the struggling and the successful home industry could provide an opportunity to fulfill women’s multiple roles with minimal conflict. They could have their “two worlds in one.” And for the strong, the talented, well-trained, the aggressive, flowermaking at home allowed for the preservation of independence as an artisans and as women.
