국문 초록

본고는 일제강점기 조선의 상황에서 근대화의 기획으로 전개한 1920년대 방정환의 동화구연회와 변사조 내레이션을 분석했다. 소파는 국내외적으로 혼란과 위기가 가중되던 시기에 근대화의 기획으로 문화운동을 펼쳤는데, 지나치게 감상적이고 통속적인 아동의 이미지를 그려냈다. 그가 양산한 ‘동정의 서사’는 시대성에 역행한다는 비판에도 불구하고 동화구연회라는 새로운 공연문화를 만나면서, 대중적 문화행사로 지칭될 만큼 인기를 누렸다. 그런데 신문, 잡지, 영화, 라디오 등의 매체들이 일상의 영역으로 들어오던 1920년대 중반에 왜 동화구연회가 성행했느냐는 점이다. 당시 조선사회는 입학난이 새로운 사회문제로 대두될 만큼 학교교육을 받은 학생들이 적지 않았을 텐데, 납득하기 어려운 문제적 사례가 된다. 동화구연회는 본격적인 근대화의 과정에서 발생시킨 독특한 현상이라 할 수 있다. 본고는 이러한 문제의식에서 소파의 텍스트에 나타난 변사조 내레이션을 분석함으로써 1920년대 일제강점기 조선의 문화적 근대화 운동의 특성을 연구했다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the fairy tale recital and the film interpreter’s narration of Sofa that developed as a modernization plan in the 1920s during the Japanese colonial era. When confusion and crisis were mounting at home and abroad, Sofa launched a cultural movement with the modernization plan, drawing an image of an overly sentimental and popular child. Despite criticism that his mass-produced narrative of sympathy runs counter to the times, he enjoyed popularity enough to be referred to as a popular cultural event as he met a new performing culture called a fairy tale recital. However, the question is why fairy tales were so popular in the mid-1920s when newspapers, magazines, movies and radio media were entering the realm of daily life. At that time, there must have been a number of students who received school education to the extent that the difficulty of admission emerged as a new social problem, which is a difficult case to understand. It can be said that the fairy tale banquet is a unique phenomenon that occurred in the course of full-scale modernization. Based on the narration shown in the children’s novels on the Sofa, the study conducted a research on the characteristics of the modernization plan movement in the 1920s, Japanese colonial era.
