국문 초록

본 연구는 사진치료 프로그램을 통해 청각장애 중년여성이 삶에서 어떤 경험을 하며 살아왔고 그 경험이 그들에게 어떠한 의미가 있는지를 탐구하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 청각장애 중년여성 네 명을 선정하여 내러티브 탐구방법(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000)으로 연구를 진행하였다. 청각장애 중년여성의 삶의 내러티브를 살펴보면, 그녀들은 삶에서 어린 시절 가족들로 하여금 보살핌을 받거나 걱정하는 존재가 되면서도 같은 장애가 있는 경우 가족 간의 의사소통 중간전달자의 역할을 요구받으며 살아왔다. 그녀들은 여성으로 당연히 부여되는 엄마 역할로부터 박탈당하기도 하고 가족과 사회에서 불평등을 경험하기도 하였다. 그녀들은 자신의 삶에서 일어난 힘들고 고통스러운 이야기를 허심탄회하게 나누지 못하며 자신의 삶을 살아내고 있었다. 이러한 삶을 살아온 그녀들이 경험한 사진치료에 대해 살펴본 의의는 첫째, 사진 매체는 그들의 가슴 속 이야기를 자연스럽게 꺼내는 역할을 한다. 둘째, 자기 삶의 모습을 돌아보는 순간들을 경험한다. 마지막으로 연구에 참여하면서 참여자들이 자신 내부의 힘을 찾아 자신을 스스로 삶의 주체자로 세움으로써 자신의 삶에 영향을 주는 환경을 조절할 힘을 갖게 되는 긍정적인 변화를 경험한다.

영문 초록

This study intented to explore the life experience of middle-aged women with hearing impairment and what meaning the experiences have to them through a photographic therapy program. In addition, it is aimed to unveil the meaning of their photographic therapy experience for them. For the purpose, four middle-aged women with hearing impairment were selected and and studied by narrative research method(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000). Participants were being cared and worried by their families in their early childhood, but at the same time, they have been asked to play the role of intermediary communicator between families when there was someone having the same disability. They experienced discrimination from their families and societies, and also have been deprived of their role as a mother that is naturally given to all woman. They are living their life without candidly sharing the difficult and painful events happening in their personal life. The significance of applying photography therapy for the women who lived this life is summarized as; first, photo media (photography medium) naturally brings out the stories they kept only to theirselves. Second, they can experience the moments of looking back the images of their own lives. Lastly, by participating in this research participants were able to find out their inner strength to make themselves the main subject of life, which led to positive change, giving them the power to control the environment, affecting their own life.
