규방공예(閨房工藝)의 조형적 특징을 응용한 현대도예연구

국문 초록

규방공예는 조선시대 유교사상을 배경으로 나타난 특별한 공간인 규방을 배경으로 탄생하였다. 규방에서 만들어진 공예는 여성들만의 창조적 욕구와 특별한 감성을 바탕으로 그들만의 독특한 조형미를 보여주었다. 본 연구는 가족과 집안의 문화와 역사를 내포하고 있는 규방공예의 조형미를 통해 현대도예에서 보이는 다양한 표현을 이해 및 분석하고자 한다. 연구는 규방공예의 조형적 특징을 점, 선, 면으로 분류하였고, 이를 규방공예의 다양한 표현 및 전통적 기법인 침선, 자수, 조각보로 연계하여 현대도예의 표현 해석을 위한 모티브로 제시하였다. 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 ① 침선의 반복과 숙달의 결과물인 점의 연속을 통한 운동감(정소혜), 규칙적인 점의 심리적 연결성(룻 레일만), ② 자수 의 선의 반복을 통한 면적 공간 형성(김선), 선의 규칙적 나열에 의한 입체감(박정홍), ③조각보의면의 중첩을 통한 형의 형성(이기조), 면의 시각적 중첩에 의한 밀도 표현(웨인 힉비) 등 규방공예의 조형미를 각기 다른 방식으로 해석 가능한 작가들의 작품을 선별해 연구하였다. 본 연구는 크게는 민족에서 작게는 가족마다의 역사와 문화에 의해 생성된 독특한 의미와 감성 그리고 미감이 담긴 규방공예를 이해하고 분석했다. 이를 기반으로 한 조형적 접근을 통해 현대도예의 다양한 표현을 재해석하였다. 연구는 전통문화에 대한 지속적인 관찰과 실험, 그리고 융합 등을 통해 새로운 표현 창출의 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The Gyubang, Korean women’s quarter of the Joseon Dynasty, although limiting was the mainstream tendency of Confucian philosophy for the female gender. This was a space restricted to females only. The craft works made in the gyubang spaces fulfilled creative needs and released energies of Korean women. What they created was unique with distinct character. The craft works were feminine in aesthetics with special traits. This study researches the circumstances confronted by Joseon dynasty females in order to understand the craft works of gyubang culture. The materials and techniques used at the time are researched to translate into clay as an artistic expression for creating new works. The concept behind gyubang craft works is studied to understand its significance and philosophy. The formative language applied to gyubang craft work is defined in terms of point, line, and plane. The diverse expressions in their craft based on these focal formative tendencies produced sewing methods, embroidery, pojagi(Korean patchwork). Contemporary ceramics is able to translate almost anything into clay. Here in this study, points are expressed by applying the sewing method, lines are based on embroidery, planes interpret Korean pojagi. Research for the study was conducted by examining both Korean and international artists. Through the study, it has been possible to understand traditional culture and the diversity it embraces to be applied to contemporary ceramics today. It is important to succeed tradition and history in order for further developments in the field of contemporary ceramics. Infinite possibilities can be suggested by studying the gyubang culture and its craft works.
