<금방울전>의 인물 형상화 방식 고찰

국문 초록

이 논문은 <금방울전>에 나타난 인물의 형상화 방식을 색채의 부여와 표현에 집중하여 살핀 것이다. <금방울전>은 전생의 미진한 인연을 잇기 위해 주인공이 환생하여 활약하는 내용을 담고 있다. 금방울은 다섯 선관이 제공한 신이한 능력을 발휘하여 주요 인물을 조력한다. 이 작품은 인물을 묘사할 때 색채 표현을 주로 활용하고 있는데, 이를 바탕으로 영웅인물의 면모를 드러내고 특정한 서사적 역할을 수행하게 한다. 첫째, 색채 드러내기를 통해 영웅성을 제고한다. 금방울이 뛰어난 능력을 발휘하는 장면에서 금빛이라는 색깔을 함께 그려내고, 다양한 빛깔의 의복을 착용한 선관들이 신물을 수여하는 모습을 묘사하며, 괴물의 포악성을 색으로써 표현한 것이다. 이렇게 색채 표현을 적극적으로 활용하였기 때문에 금방울의 영웅성이 더욱 두드러질 수 있었다. 둘째, 색채 감추기를 통해 영웅성을 전이시킨다. 금방울로 인해 해룡과 그의 가족은 인생의 전환점을 맞게 된다. 해룡이 영웅성을 자각하여 금방울의 조력이 필요하지 않게된 순간부터 금방울의 금빛은 더 이상 문면에 나타나지 않는다. 해룡만이 유일한 영웅인물로 묘사되며 이를 위한 행위에서도 색채와 관련된 표현이 전무하다. 색채에 대한 언급이 사라져 영웅의 지위가 금방울에서 해룡으로 옮겨갔음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 시각 매체를 통해 영웅성을 귀결시킨다. 인물을 형상화할 때 시각적 요소를 주로 활용하면서 독자가 색채에 집중하도록 한다. 그림 족자라는 소재는 금방울이 언어를 사용 하지 않고도 양측의 소통이 가능하도록 하는 시각 매체이다. 이를 적절하게 활용하여 가 족이 무사히 상봉하도록 하였는데, 이 순간이 바로 영웅인물의 모든 과업이 달성되는 때 이다. 이후 영웅적 행위는 요구되지 않고 오로지 영화로운 삶만이 남아있을 뿐이므로 영 웅성의 귀결이라 할 만하다. 넷째, 작중인물에게 색채를 부여하고 표현하는 방식을 통해 주제의식을 효과적으로 드러낼 수 있다. 색채 표현에 집중하여 여성영웅의 능력을 뚜렷하게 묘사할 수 있었다. 여성 영웅만이 발휘할 수 있는 힘을 구체적으로 그려내기 위해 색채를 빈번하게 언급하고 남성 영웅과의 차별점을 부각하였다. 그리고 작품 내 시각적 요소를 특화시켜 결국 그림 족자라는 특정한 소재에 독자가 집중하도록 하였다. 또한 남성영웅의 활동 기반을 마련하기 위한 여성영웅의 활약을 한시적이나마 강렬하게 표현하여 여성인물의 주도적인 면모를 드러낼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

Geumbanguljeon is a literature piece that centers on the reincarnated protagonist, who tries to maintain the relationship from the past life. Geumbangul helps key characters with her mysterious powers that were gifted from the heaven to accomplish her purpose of current life. By focusing on the styles of characterization of the figures in the story, the use of expressions related to color becomes prominent. First the use of color is used to emphasize the character’s heroism. When Geumbangul demonstrates heroic actions and values, the color gold is described. Moreover, there is a detailed description of gods dressed in vividly colored clothing appointing Geumbangul with holy gifts. Moreover, the description of color used to characterize the monster, a subject of elimination, intensified the treacherous aspects of it, allowing Geumbangul’s heroism to be more salient in reflection. Secondly, the hiding of color transfers heroism of characters. With Geumbangul’s effort, the gloomy life of Haeryong and other key characters encounters a changing moment. As Haeryong realizes and embodies its heroism, color is no longer used to describe Geumbangul. In the description of Haeryong as the hero that protects the nation and his heroic deeds, description of color is not used. As the color is no longer used as an expression, it implies that the heroic status has transferred from Geumbangul to Haeryong. Third, the heroic finish is accomplished by calling the audience’s attention on the visualized materials. As the story employing visualization and vivid description to characterize the figures, the audiences are captivated by the colors. The picture scroll(the hanging picture) is a visualized media that relays messages from each side for Geumbangul, who cannot engage in verbal expressions. The layout of these picture scrolls are designed to solve a problem at once when they are put together, implying that the union of family is the final quest of the hero. Fourth, the use and focus on the color enabled effective delivery of the theme. The expression of color characterized a female heroine, as well as allowing narrative attention on specific topics. Indeed, it allows even the depiction of the story of an active, self-driven female who paves her own path.
