雲養 金允植의 詩論과 批評 고찰

국문 초록

구한말의 관료이자 문장가인 雲養 金允植(1835~1922)은 제가들의 문학이론을 종합하고 체계화하였으며 文과 詩의 창작에 있어 뚜렷한 족적을 남겼다. 그의 문장에는 동도서 기론에 입각한 글이 다수 있는데, 이는 전통적 가치를 보존하면서 한편으로는 신문물을 수용해야한다는 시대적 인식이 반영된 결과이다. 김윤식의 문집인 雲養集에는 450 여 편의 산문 작품과 1,574수의 시가 시기별로 편집되어 있다. 그는 문학의 본질에 대해 깊이 인식하고 있었던 인물로서 시론에 있어서도 체계적이며 구체적인 문학관을 구축하고 있었는데 몇 가지 특징적인 면모가 있다. 그의 시론은 세 가지로 집약되는데 우선 자연스러운 성정표출과 조탁을 강조하여 전통적인 시론을 견지하면서도 조탁의 공을 중시한 점이다. 그리고 창작의 근본으로 독서를 통한 박학을 추구하여 온축된 지식을 통해 신운의 소재를 터득해야 함을 주장하였다. 마지막으로 시 창작에 있어 올바른 성정을 전제한 모든 상황을 초탈하여 시공간을 넘나드는 神의 경지를 추구하였다. 김윤식 시론은 이처럼 하나의 유기적 구조를 갖고 있어 그의 논리가 순간적인 감상에서 나온 것이 아니라 문학의 근본에 대한 오랜 기간에 걸친 고뇌의 결과임을 알 수 있다. 따라서 더욱 설득력을 갖고 있으며 독자의 공감을 불러일으킨다. 김윤식은 시평도 활발하게 전개하여 이론과 실제를 일치시키는 면모를 보였다. 그의 시평 방식은 크게 대상 작품의 풍격을 분석하는 방식과 唐詩를 기준으로 평가하는 방식으로 나눌 수 있다. 풍격론의 경우, ‘淸’, ‘雄’ 등의 평어를 사용하였으나, 그중에서도 ‘淸’의 풍격을 우선시하였다. 그리고 두보를 위시한 당나라의 시인 및 唐詩를 비평의 기준으로 삼아 나름대로 체계적인 비평을 시도함으로써 객관성을 확보하고자 하였다. 김윤식은 창작의 현장에서도 많은 작품을 남겨 놓았으며 문학의 본질에 대해 깊이 있는 고민을 통해 수준 높은 시론을 구축하였고, 실제 비평에서도 독자적인 비평을 시도함으로써 창작과 이론과 비평이 혼연히 완성된 문학적 실상을 보여주고 있다. 특히「석정시초」에 나타나 있는 비평의 실상을 고찰함으로써 그의 문학사적 위상과 의의가 더욱 밝혀질 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Un Yang Kim Yunsik(1835~1922), a late Chosun-dynasty bureaucra t and writer, left important marks in literature and poetry by combining and systematizing the literary theories of different scholars. He displaye d writing based on the idea of maintaining traditional culture while acce pting western civilization (東道西器論). In 「Unyangjip」, Kim Yunsik’s collection, there are around 450 prose and 1,574 pieces of poetry. He wrote poetry based on systematic poetry theory, which shows the following theory when analyzed. His poetics theory is condensed into three things. Firstly, natural expression of character and elaboration of sentences is emphasized. And Kim Yunsik strove for knowledge through reading as the basis of creation. He argued that the basis of creation lies in building a wide spectrum of knowledge and obtaining topics for new pieces; poetry without such basis lowers the class of the piece. Lately, he strove for the level of Shinoon in writing poetry. Assuming correct nature, Kim Yunsik aimed for the level of Sin(神 )in writing poetry which surpasses the scene of the heart which surpasses the scene of the eye. Such level is that of being able to interact with people of distant past by going to places and times that one has never been to by transcending space and time. This is an important feature of the poetic theory of Kim Yunsik. Kim Yun-sik s poetic theory has such an organic structure that his logic does not come from momentary appreciation, but from a long period of thought over the roots of literature. Therefore, it is more persuasive and evokes sympathy from readers. Kim Yun-sik also actively engaged in criticism of poems and aligned theory with practice. His criticism method can be divided into a method that analyzes the style of a target work and a method that evaluates it based on the poetry of Tang Dynasty. In the case of theory of style, he used the words such as clarity(淸) and magnificence(雄) , but prioritized 淸 among them. By using the poets of Tang Dynasty such as Du Fu and the poetry of Tang Dynasty as the basis of criticism, he tried to secure objectivity by making a systematic criticism of his own. Kim Yun-sik has also left a lot of creative works, built a high-quality poetic theory through deep thought about the essence of literature, and showed the literary reality in which creation, theory and criticism form a complete whole by attempting independent criticism in real-life criticism. In particular, I hope that his literary and historical status and significance will be further clarified by examining the facts of the criticism that appeared in 『Seokjeongsicho(石貞詩鈔)』.
