국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국과 싱가포르의 실제 결혼식장에서 사용하는 결혼 인사 표현을 조사한 후 이것을 바탕으로 인터넷 설문 조사를 통해 결혼인사 표현의 공통점과 차이점을 알아보는 것이다. 결혼은 인생에 있어서 아주 중요한 행사 중의 하나이므로 결혼 인사 표현 양상을 알아보는 것은 의의가 있다. 그런데 지금까지의 연구에서 현장 조사를 바탕으로 인터넷 설문 조사에 의한 결혼 축하 표현의 연구가 미흡했다. 이런 시점에 한국인과 싱가포르인이 사용하는 결혼 축하 표현을 대조언어학 및 사회언어학적인 방법으로 고찰하는 것은 의의가 있다고 본다.

영문 초록

This study aims to identify preferred wedding congratulations expressions among language users in recent years. Previous studies suggested Hapsyo style without honorifics, that is, ‘chughahabnida’ is the most frequent expression, but considering the fact that language changes over time and varies within a society, it is necessary to check if this expression is still preferred or not. For this purpose, the study first collected data such as expressions used by participants in actual wedding ceremonies and then conducted internet surveys. The results show that though expressions meaning ‘congratulations’ are widely used among Korean speakers, ‘sseumnida’ style with honorifics is most frequent and Haeyo style is second and third most frequent and ‘sseumnida’ style with honorifics is followed. The second most frequent congratulations expression is something meaning ‘best wishes for happiness.’ For contrastive studies, wedding congratulations expressions among Singaporean English speakers are examined and the results shows that their favorite expressions for wedding couples are ‘congratulations’ and ‘happy for you’. Some other expressions such as ‘you look pretty(handsome) today’ at wedding ceremonies are also used and this expression is rarely used by Korean speakers.
