『中庸』에 인용 된 詩의 天人觀 考察

국문 초록

본 논문은 『中庸』의 사상을 이해하는 통로 중의 하나로서, 『中庸』에 담긴 詩와 그 속에 담긴 詩想의 내용을 고찰하고자 한다. 『中庸』의 사상은 기본적으로 天人關係, 즉 天道와 人道의 연관성에 따른 天人合一의 원칙을 반영하고 있다. 이러한 원칙에는 인간의 德性을 특징으로 하는 인간의 性情을 敎化시키는 취지를 지닌다. 이를 환기시킬 수 있도록 『詩經』 의 詩를 활용 한 것이다. 여기에서는 『詩經』의 詩를 통해 中庸의 道를 상징적으로 피력하는 데에 있다. 이는 儒家의 교화의 취지를 환기시키는 방법으로서 비유적 방식에 착안한 것이다. 『中庸』에서 詩를 15편 인용하였는데 『詩經』의 내용별로 보면 大雅 편이 7번으로 가장 많이 인용되었다. 이는 儒家의 정치적 혹은 윤리적 논리에 가장 합당하였기 때문일 것이다. 예를 들어, 문왕의 德 을 찬미한 詩를 인용하여 天道의 至誠無息을 밝히고, 君子의 不顯之德을 無聲無臭하는 天에 비유하여 聖人의 德을 강조하였다. 또 『中庸』에서 제시하는 率性之道라는 논제에 대해 詩를 인용하여 天道가 내 안에 있음을 강조하면서 以人治人의 논리를 설명하였다. 聖人의 不顯之德이 天道에 合하여 사람들이 敎化되어 온 세상에 두루 미친 中庸의 지극한 효과를 말한 것이다. 『中庸』에서 “道가 같이 가면서도 서로 어긋나지 않고 만물이 같이 자라면서도 서로 해치지 않는다.”라고 한 것처럼 대립과 갈등, 투쟁이 아닌 상대를 인정하고 수용할 수 있는 中和의 철학, 평화의 원리, 相生의 법칙이 인류 사회의 보편적 질서가 되어야 한다. 이는 아마 詩想이야말로 孔子가 역설한 사특함이 없는 순수한 德을 특징으로 하는 인간의 性情을 敎化시킬 수 있고, 환기시킬 수 있는 가장 좋은 방법 중의 하나라고 인식했기 때문일 것이다.

영문 초록

This thesis is one of the channels to understand the ideas of 『Zhong Yong(中庸)』, and aims at examining the poetry in 『Zhong Yong』 and the contents of poetic concepts in it. The ideas of 『Zhong Yong』 basically reflect the relation between Nature(天) and humans, that is, the principle of oneness of Nature and humans(天人合一) according to the connection between the law of Nature(天道) and the law of humans(人道). This principle has the purpose of reforming human nature featuring virtue. In order to call attention to this, the poems of 『Shī Jīng(詩經)』 were used. Here, it s for the symbolic expression of the law(道) of moderation(中庸) through the poetry of 『Shī Jīng』. It is from the metaphorical method as a way to call attention to the purpose of Confucian reformation. 15 pieces of poems were quoted from 『Zhong Yong』, and in each category of the contents of 『ShiJing』, Chapter Daya(大雅) was quoted most, seven times in total. It is because they were most appropriate for Confucian political or ethical logic. For instance, by quoting the poem praising King Wen s virtue, ceaseless and utmost sincerity(至誠無息) of the law of Nature(天道) was investigated, and by comparing a virtuous man s not-revealed virtue(不顯之德) to not-revealed(無聲無臭) Nature(天), saints virtue was emphasized. In addition, regarding the subject of argument that ‘true law follows nature(率性之道)’ suggested in『Zhong Yong』, poems were quoted, it was stressed out that the law of Nature(天道) was inside oneself, and the logic of ‘ruling men by men(以人治人)’ was explained. The extreme effects of moderation reaching the world far and wide that saints not-revealed virtue(不顯之德) agreed with the law of Nature(天道) so people become reformed were explained. As 『Zhong Yong』 said that “while Nature(道) goes together, there s no contradiction, and while all creation grow together, they don t harm one another”, not confrontation, conflicts, or struggles, but the philosophy of neutralization to approve and accept others, the principle of peace, and the law of coexistence should be the universal order of human society. It might be because of the recognition that the very poetic concepts were one of the best ways to change and call attention to human nature featuring pure virtue without wickedness, which was emphasized by Confucius.
