실과 교과서의 내용 탐색 과정에서 나타나는 초등학생의 시선 추적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 초등학생들이 실과 교과서를 어떻게 파악하는지를 시선 이동 방법을 통해 탐색하여 실과 교과서 디자인 방안을 제시하기 위한 교육적 시사점을 얻는데 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 시선 추적 장치를 이용하여 데이터를 얻고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 연구참여자는 초등학교 5학년 15명이고, 자료 수집을 위한 과제는 현행 교과서 중 A출판사의 5학년 교과서에서 6개의 디자인을 선정하였다. 이 연구의 문제와 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사진, 삽화, 텍스트에 대한 학생들의 주의 집중 차이는 어떠한가? 결과를 보면 학생들은 사진, 삽화보다 텍스트에 시선이 오래 집중하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 두 쪽 펼침으로 디자인된 체험 활동 안내 내용에 대해 학생들의 시선은 어떻게 이동하는가? 학생들의 시선은 좌에서 우까지 일의 순서대로 이동하는 것이 아니라 좌쪽의 내용을 수직으로 파악한 후 우측쪽으로 이동하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 교과서의 상하/좌우에 영역에서 학생들의 시선은 어느 부분에 더욱 집중하는가? 학생들의 시선은 상측 부분에 그리고 좌측 영역에 시선이 집중하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 체험 활동에 대한 설명문과 사진, 삽화에서 시선은 어디에 더 집중하는가? 결과는 설명문에 시선이 더욱 집중하는 것으로 나타났다 다섯째, 교과서 디자인에서 학생들이 시선을 덜 집중하는 요인은 무엇이고, 학생들의 시선은 얼마나 이동하는가? 이 결과 특히 사진이나 삽화에 학생들의 시선이 덜 집중하였고, 다수의 학생들은 특정한 사진에 대해 시선을 한 번도 이동하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to find out how elementary school students perceive textbooks through eye movement method, to suggest design methods of textbooks and to suggest educational implications. To achieve the study, data were obtained by using eye tracking system. Fifteen students in the fifth grade of an elementary school participated in the study. Data collection for the research was conducted from the five textbook designs. The results of this study are as follows. First, what are the differences in students attention to photography, illustration, and text? The results showed that the students focused on the text more than photographs and illustrations. Second, how do students gaze move about the contents of the experiential activities designed by two-page spread? The students gaze did not shift from left to right in the order of work but rather to the right after grasping the contents of the left side vertically. Third, where do students gaze more focus on: the top, bottom, left, or the right sides of the textbook? The students gaze was concentrated on the upper part and the left part. Fourth, where do students’ gaze focus on: explanations, photographs, and illustrations about experiential activities? The results showed that the gaze was more concentrated in the commentary. Fifth, what are the factors that make students less focus on textbook design and how does their eyes shift? As a result, students focused less on photographs and illustrations, and many students did not look at particular photos.
