국문 초록

일본 제국주의에 의한 고고학 조사는 식민지, 위임통치, 조차지 등 당시 일본의 영향력이 미치는 모든 지역에서 실시되었다. 이러한 고고학 조사는 기본적으로 식민지의 효율적인 통치를 위한 기초 조사의 일환으로 실시되었으며, 대부분의 지역에서는 일본인에 의한 고고학 조사가 그 지역의 첫 고고학 연구 활동이었다. 일본 제국주의에 의한 고고학 조사는 일본과 직접적인 역사적 관련이 있는 지역과 그렇지 않은 지역으로 구분되며, 조사의 내용에서도 큰 차이를 보인다. 식민지 조선의 경우, 일본의 선사·고대 문화를 증명하는 보조 자료의 확보와 그것을 통한 식민 사관의 확립이 고고학 조사의 주된 목적이었다면 대만에서의 조사는 대만 원주민에 대한 기초 조사 그리고 관동주, 만주 지역에서의 조사는 대륙으로의 일본 진출과 궤를 같이하는 사전 조사의 성격을 가지고 있었다. 그리고 이러한 고고학 활동의 배경 에는 당시 일본 내에서 자유로운 발굴 및 연구 활동이 어려웠던 일본 고고학계의 상황이 깔려 있는 것이다. 그리고 현재 일본 고고학계에서는 이와 같은 당시의 사회적 상황을 근거로 제국주의와 고고학을 분리해서 평가하는 경향이 적지 않다. 본고에서는 일제강점기 각 지역에서 어떠한 고고학 조사가 이루어졌으며, 그것이 일본고고학과 어떠한 관계에 있는지, 그리고 그것이 현재 일본 고고학에서 어떠한 시각으로 평가되고 있는지를 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

Archeological survey by Japanese imperialism were conducted in all areas of Japanese influence at that time, including colonies, mandate governments, and leased territories. That survey was carried out as part of a basic survey for the effective control of colonies, and archeological survey by Japanese were the first archeological research activities in most areas. Archeological survey by Japanese imperialism is divided into regions that have a direct historical relationship with Japan and those that do not, and the contents of investigations vary widely between them. In the case of colonial Joseon, the main purpose of archaeological investigations was to acquire supporting materials to prove Japanese prehistoric and ancient cultures and establish colonial view of history through them. On the other hand, the investigations in Taiwan were based on the basic survey on native people in Taiwan, and the investigations in the Kwantung Leased Territory and Manchuria were preliminary investigations to prepare for the advancement of Japan into the continent. In the background of these archaeological activities, there was a situation where Japanese archaeologists could not freely perform excavation and research activities in Japan at that time. At present in the Japanese archeological community, there is a tendency to separately evaluate imperialism and archaeology based on the social situation of the time. This study examined what types of archaeological investigations were conducted in each region during the Japanese colonial era and how they are related to and evaluated in the current Japanese archeology.
