국문 초록

본 연구는 예술작품의 제작 행위를 연구 활동과 연결 짓고자 하는 연구자들에 의해 생산된 다양한 논의 중에서 유럽을 중심으로 전개된 ‘연구로서의 실행(practice as research)’을 살펴보고 시각예술 분야에서 이에 대한 가능성을 탐색해 보고자 한다. 이를 위해 연구로서의 실행의 이론적 배경과 개념을 검토하고 미술 영역에서 연구로서의 실행이 적용되었을 때 연구의 목적, 문맥, 방법, 보급의 측면에서 어떠한 특성을 가지는지 고찰하였다. 작품의 완성 전 사고의 흐름과 연구과정이 드러나는 동시대 미술가들의 작업 노트에 주목하고 이를 ‘연구로서의 미술실행’의 관점에서 검토해 본 특성을 종합하면 목적 면에서 우리의 지식과 이해를 확장하고자 하는 의도를 지녔고, 연구문맥과 미술계에 관한 질문을 생산하였고, 암묵적 지식을 드러내는 실험적, 해석적 방법을 채택했으며, 연구 과정과 결과는 연구 공동체와 대중에게 문서화되고 배포되었다. 더불어 미술교육에서 이러한 관점이 적용되었을 때 나타날 변화와 가능성에 대해서도 관련 연구자들의 논의를 통해 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

This study would examine ‘practice as research’ developed in Europe, of the various discussions produced by the researchers who would connect the act of the production of works of art to research activities and explore its possibility in the field of visual arts. For this purpose, this study would examine the theoretical background and concept of practice as research and discuss its characteristics in terms of the purpose, context, method and dissemination of the research when it was applied to the area of visual art. this study focuses on the contemporary artists’work notes in which the flow of thought and research process are revealed before the completion of works and examine them from the viewpoint of ‘art practice as a research’. Taken together, it intends to expand our knowledge and understanding, addresses questions that are pertinent in the research context and in the art world, and employs experimental and hermeneutic methods that reveal the tacit knowledge. And it s processes and outcomes are documented and disseminated to the research community and the wider public. In addition, this study would investigate the change and potential that would appear when the concept of art practice as research was applied to art education through the related researchers’ discussions.
