국문 초록

禮容은 유가 예학의 한 구성 요소로서 의례를 행하는 자의 외재적 용모나, 언어, 행동과 내재적 정감의 일치를 강조한다. 유가에서는 “신심의 일체”를 주장하며 인간의 외재적 행위가 내재적 덕성의 표현이라고 주장하고 내재적 덕성과 외재적 행동의 내외적으로 서로 어우러지는 관계를 강조한다. 따라서 禮容之學은 선진시대부터 유자들이 공부하고 실천하는 중요한 내용으로 되었다. 서원이 발흥한 후, 특히 이학가의 “主敬” 사상의 영향으로 서원에서는 예용의 공부와 실천을 매우 강조하고 예용의 학문을 유생들의 언어, 용모, 복장, 행동의 규범으로 실제화하였다. 몸에 대한 규범화를 통해 유생들의 덕성을 높이고 서원유생들의 군자다운 인격을 양성하고자 한 것이다. 오늘의 교육에 지식만 중시하고 덕성을 무시한다는 폐단이 존재하는 점에서 중국 고대서원교육의 禮容之學의 전개를 살펴보는 것이 오늘의 도덕교육에 중요한 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

Yeyong is an element of Yuga (School of Confucius Teaching) Yehak (Study of Good Decorum) that emphasizes the consistency of innate affection with external appearance, verbal use and behavior of persons exercising rituals. In Yuga, the “unity of mind and body” is asserted with the external conduct of human to be an expression of innate virtue in a way of emphasizing the relationship to harmonize internal virtue and external behavior. Therefore, Yeyongjihak is consisted of important contents for the Confucius scholars to study and practice from the Pre-Qin Dynasty Period. After the emergence of Seowon, especially with the influence of the “Jugyeong (Respect)” Thought of Lee Hak-ga, Seowon emphasizes highly of studying and practice of Yeyong as well as actualizing the study of Yeyong as the norm for language, appearance, attire and behavior for the Confucius scholars. Through the normalization on body, it was intended to enhance the virtue and advance the noble man-like personality for those Confucius scholars. While the today’s education that has displayed ill-effect of placing value on knowledge only with neglect of virtuous behavior, taking a look at the deployment of Yeyongjihak in the Seowon education during the ancient times of China may have significant importance to the ethics education of today.
