국문 초록

이 글은 국가적인 영웅으로 추앙받는 이순신의 성장 배경은 어떠했는지, 그리고 그의 문무겸전이 어떻게 이루어졌는가를 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 그의 성장배경을 보면, 그의 집안은 고려말 무장 집안에서 조선시대에 이르러 양반 사대부 가문으로 바뀌었다. 그 후 중시조로부터 7대조인 이변과 9대조인 이거 시대에 이르러 양반 사대부 가문으로서의 기틀을 확고히 다지고, 경제적인 기반도 마련한 것으로 추정된다. 이순신은 이러한 환경 속에서 20세까지 문과를 준비하였는데, 이 과정에서 자연스럽게 문무겸전의 한 축인 문(文) 분야를 완성할 수 있었다. 또한 유성룡과의 교류는 그가 전라좌수사로 등용되는 한 계기가 되기도 하였다. 그리고 이순신이 갖춘 인문적인 교양은 그의 관직 생활에도 영향을 미쳐, 강직하고 올곧은 선비와 같은 면모를 보여준 예가 많았다. 요컨대 이순신은 아무런 뿌리도 없이 어느 순간에 불쑥 솟아난 개인이 아니라 조선전기의 양반 사대부 가문에서 성장하면서 유학 사상을 배우고 익힌, 다시 말해 역사적 흐름 속에서 탄생하고 성장한 인물이었다.

영문 초록

This study is to examine how admiral Yi, the korean national hero, was raised and how he achieved both military and literary success. Looking at his family background, his family originally served nation as military generals in late Goryu-dynasty, then in Chosun-dynasty, the social status of his family was ascended to aristocrats (Yang-ban). from his 7th ancestor, Yi-byun, to his 9th ancestor, Yi-guh, admiral Yi s family laid the solid foundation to be aristocratic household, and established economic stability. Living as a member of an aristocratic family which used to produce numbers of military generals, admiral Yi once prepared to be a civil minister until he reached age of 20. as the result, he naturally acquired literary talent. also his personal relationship between him and Ryu, Sung-yong provided him an opportunity to be appointed as the left of Junra provincial naval commander in chief. admiral Yi s profound knowledge in philosophy and arts greatly influenced himself while his governmental service. serving as a governmental military officer, he always showed righteous and honest characteristics, which ancient korean scholars often showed. In short, admiral Yi is not just some ordinary man who came from the bottom to the top, but actually a son of a well-established aristocratic family of Chosun -dynasty, who learned and mastered confucianism. in other words, he was born and raised by the historical flow.
