영문 초록

A new frontier in global history is the examination of silver smelting technology innovation in mid-sixteenth century East Asia. Korea played an important role in the technology transfer to Japan. Yi Korea and Ming China had experienced a serious monetary contraction during the fifteenth century. European aristocracy and Japanese bakufu were indulged in their passion for Korean luxuries like porcelain, raw silk, ginseng, ramie fabric. In Korea the relative values of gold and silver around mid fifteenth century were in ratio of 1 to 7.5, but from the middle of sixteenth century the amount of what Japan wanted to export silver to Korea for cotton suddenly increased, but Korea officials were forced to undertake rigid control. The conflict between official sanctions of Korean government and Japanese private request led up to the seven years war(1592-1598) in East Asia. After international war in East Asia, the ratio convergence of gold to silver between East and West resulted from the highly integrated global silver market. .
