안구 추적 시스템을 활용한 읽기 과정에 나타난 독자의 성별 차이 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 독해 문항 풀이 과정에 나타난 남학생과 여학생 간의 읽기 과정차이를 분석하여 읽기 성취도에서 주로 발생하는 성별 차이의 원인과 그 교육적 해결 방안을 제시해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대표적인 대단위 성취도 검사인 2012년 학업성취도 읽기 영역 문항을 대상으로 하여 충북의 C 고등학교 2학년 학생 10명의 독해 문항 풀이 과정을 분석하였다. 독자의 문항 풀이 과정에서 나타난 읽기 패턴은 Tobii Glasses & Recording Assistant와 Tobii Studio 2.X 프로그램을 활용하여 안구 운동을 통해 도출하였다. 독자의 안구 고정(fixations) 빈도, 고정(지속) 시간을중심으로 한 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독해 문항 풀이 과정에서 여학생은 남학생에 비해 읽기 속도가 약 1.5배 더 빠른 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지문을 읽는 과 정에서 여학생과 남학생 간의 읽기 패턴이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 여학생은 남학생보다 지문 읽기 과정에서 최대한 많은 정보를 기억하고자 노력하였고 이 때문에 실제 문항 풀이 시간이 짧고 방법도 효율적이었다. 셋째, 여학생은 문두에 주의 집중 하고 지문과 답지를 효율적으로 대조하여 문제 풀이 속도가 빠른 반면, 남학생은 답지에서 정보를 파악하는 시간이 오래 걸리고, 비효율적으로 지문과 답지를 대조하여 속도가 느린 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences of reading process in reading comprehension test and to suggest educational solution methods considered causes of gender differences in reading comprehension process. The eye movements of 10 korean high school students(male=5, female=5) readers were monitored while reading and completing 3 reading test items composing of prompt, reading passage and multiple-choice options using eye trackers, Tobii Glasses & Recording Assistant and Tobii Studio 2.X software. 3 reading comprehension test items was part of reading test in NAEA(National Achievement Evaluation and Assessment) 2012 as the representative large scale test of korea. The experiment results showed that there is a difference in fixation durations and the fixation frequency patterns of eye movements between males and females. 1) Females s reading speed was about 3 times faster than males while reading and completing 3 reading comprehension items. 2) there is a difference in reading passage of eye movements patterns between males and females. Specifically, Females might have taken long time to focus and concentrate on remembering informations of the reading passage but males did not. 3) males spend much longer time on 5 multiple-choice options than females in the completing reading comprehension items and they did not use effective reading strategies as contrasting reading passage with 5 multiple-choice options quickly and accurately.
