<절화기담>과 <포의교집>에 나타난 애정 세태의 양상

국문 초록

본고는 19세기의 소설인 <절화기담>과 <포의교집>을 대상으로 19세기 한양이라는 도시에서 일어난 사랑이야기며 인간의 보편적 욕망을 솔직하게 인정한 소설이라는 점에서 논의를 전개해 보았다. 우선 19세기 한양의 모습에 대해 고찰하여 상업이 발달하고 외국과의 문물 교류가 활발했던 한양의 유흥적 분위기, 그런 분위기를 타고 소설 외의 문학 갈래에서도 현세 향락 적인 경향의 작품이 다수 출현했으며 위의 두 소설도 그런 연장선상에서 나온 소설이라고 논의했다. 소설의 내용에서는 두 작품 모두 유부남과 유부녀의 일탈적인 사랑과 욕망의 긍정이라는 공통점이 있다고 했으며 이들의 일회적으로 보이는 사랑에 진정성과 절실함이 있다고 보기는 힘들다는 점을 피력했다. 그런 면에서 애정전기 소설의 범주로 묶으려는 논의는 시정되어야 한다. 위 두 소설은 19세기 한양의 세태를 잘 보여주었으나 일상성을 담보한 전반적인 사회의 분위기를 보여준 것이 아니라 향락적이었던 사회의 단면을 보여 준 소설로서 세태 소설의 범주에 넣을 수 있으며 좀 더 자세히 분류하자면 애정 세태소설의 범주에 들어갈 수 있다는 점을 논의했다. 이 소설의 파격성은 당시 조선의 전반적인 세태의 반영은 아니며 한양의 여러 사회 층위 중 낮은 시선의 욕망의 세태를 보여준 것이다. 여자 주인공이 하층 여성으로 설정된 것은 남자 주인공에게 있어 자신의 처지를 버릴 만큼 절실한 대상이라고 볼 수 없기 때문이다. 즉 인간 욕망의 보편성을 인정한 솔직함과 세태를 현장감 있게 드러낸 것은 의의가 인정되지만 인정받을 수 있는 사랑의 형태라고 보기는 힘들다는 점을 논의하였다. 한편, 두 소설은 여타 고소설 작품과는 다르게 서울을 주 무대로 하여 시간, 공간 배경 및 풍속에 대해서 구체적이고 사실적으로 제시하여 생생한 현장감을 드러냈으며 시간적 배경도 실제 역사와 일치하여 소설에서 전개되는 사건에 사실성과 구체성을 담보한 것은 두 소설의 큰 가치라는 점을 인정하 였다.

영문 초록

In this paper, I have discussed the novels of the 19th century, ‘Jeolhwagidam and ‘Pouigyojib , which is a novel about the love story that happened in the city of 19th century Hanyang and the honest recognition of the universal desire of man. In the 19th century, Hanyang s artistic atmosphere, in which commercial development and exchange of foreign cultures were vigorous, was inspired by the study of the 19th century Hanyang. The novel was also discussed as a novel on the extension line. In the novel s contents, both of them said that married men and married women have a common affection of love and desire, and it is difficult to see that they have a sincere and desperate love. In this respect, the argument to tie it to the category of an affectionate novel should be corrected. The two novels showed a good picture of the 19th century Hanyang, but they did not show the general atmosphere of society that guaranteed daily life. Instead, they showed a section of a society that was fascinating and could be included in the category of novels. And that it could fall into the category of novels. The novelty of this novel is not a reflection of the general situation of Joseon at the time, but it shows the desire of low gaze among the various social strata of Hanyang. It is because the male hero is not desperate enough to throw away her position because the female hero is set as the lower female. In other words, it is difficult to view the honesty and the sadness that acknowledged the universality of human desire as a form of love that can be acknowledged but appreciated. On the other hand, the two novels, unlike the works of other high-quality novels, showed a vivid sense of reality by presenting concrete and realistic images of time, space background and customs with Seoul as the main stage. The temporal background also coincided with the actual history, I acknowledged that it is a great value of the two novels to guarantee the reality and concreteness.
