영문 초록

As a mediator aiming to transform a source culture into a target text, a translator would exploit all the available devices. Among them, adding the footnotes to a novel translation could be fully efficient to make it more readable. I tried using that device as I translated Saul Bellow s The Actual(1997). I serfed required information on the Internet. Therefore I could add 45 footnotes to the novel. Most of the notes were about persons, places and brand names. And I realized they were very useful ones to figure out what period the characters in the story lived and what the world in which they stayed was like.
