라디오방송 어린이 프로그램과 어린이문학의 자리(2)

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 1950년대 중반부터 1960년에 이르는 시기 라디오방송의 어린이 프로그램이 재편된 방식을 통해 어린이문학의 기반을 살펴나가는 데 있었다. 이 시기 양대 방송국의 어린이 프로그램은 사뭇 다른 행보를 드러내기 시작했다. KBS는 1956년부터 1957년 중반까지 방송환경 개선에 힘입어 방송체제를 전환했고, 이 과정에서 어린이 프로그램은 방송시간을 확대하며 성장을 꾀했다. 참여 프로그램의 약진이 두드러졌고, 라디오방송 어린이문학은 안정된 기반을 지속적으로 구축하였다. 하지만 탄탄한 작가 진영에 비해 라디오매체에 걸맞은 작품 운영이 이루어지지 않았고, 청취자들의 선호도가 약화되었다. 1958년 들어 KBS는 교양 프로그램을 대폭하는 가운데 아침방송이 강화된 반면 어린이문학 프로그램은 존폐 위기에 내몰렸다. 그것은 ‘도의’를 앞세운 국가주의 정책의 강화가 어린이 프로그램에 직접적인 영향을 끼친 것이었다. 각계의 비판 속에 1959년 봄 개편 후 이전의 포맷으로 전환 움직임을 보였다. 4ㆍ19혁명기를 거치고서야 KBS는 본격적인 분위기 쇄신에 나섰다. 그 과정에서 어린이문학 프로그램은 외형을 갖추기 시작했으나 여전히 라디오방송 어린이문학의 성장을 담보하기 힘들었다. 이에 반해 CBS는 1956년 들어 방송시간의 연장 과정에서 프로그램의 시간대 조정과 드나듦이 적지 않았다. 그럼에도 영어교육 프로그램의 성공적 운영, 참여 프로그램과 교양 프로그램의 신설 및 적절한 안배는 주목할 만했다. 하지만 이 시기 라디오방송 어린이문학은 약세로 돌아섰다. CBS 특유의 대화극과 각색물이 명맥을 이어가는 가운데 특정 작가에게 집중되는 한계를 드러냈다. 1958년에 접어들면서 경직된 사회적 분위기만큼 CBS는 더욱 열악한 상황에 내몰렸다. 어린이시간의 단축 속에 경쟁력 있는 세부 프로그램들이 잇따라 폐지되고, 무난한 프로그램들조차 ‘~교실’로 제명을 달리했다. 어린이문학 프로그램들 또한 크게 패퇴하여 대부분 각색물 일색이었다. 그러한 상황은 좀처럼 개선되지 못했고, 4ㆍ19혁명에야 변화를 꾀할 수 있었다. 가을 개편 당시 CBS는 4ㆍ19 정신을 계승한 <어린이뉴스>를 신설하고 ≪어린이시간≫ 프로그램의 집중도를 높였다. 그 과정에서 참여 프로그램은 안착했지만, 어린이문학프로그램은 폐색이 짙었다. 1960년대 경쟁적인 라디오방송 시대를 앞둔 시점이었지만, 라디오방송 어린이문학의 전망을 낙관하기는 힘들다 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article will examine the foundations of children's literature through the reorganization of the way children's radio program from the mid-1950s to 1960. In this period, Children’s programs of two major stations were different from each other. KBS has switched the Radio broadcasting system by improving the environment from 1956 until mid-1957. In the process, steady broadcast time has been secured and the children's program was developed. As part of this adjustment program toddler program was revived, Radio Children's literature has continued to build a stable foundation. We continue to build a stable base. Writers were great, but there was no work suitable for operating the radio medium. Therefore, the level of preference was low. But in 1958, KBS has sought to expand educational programs for the strengthening of the morning broadcast children's programs and «Children of time». Because of this, the children's literature program was about to be abolished. Infexibility of contemporary political position and reinforcement of morality education gave a direct impact on children's programs. After the reorganization in spring 1959, KBS was to revert to the previous format regardless of criticism from various fields and it tried to change the movement through April 19 revolutions. In this progression, Children's Literature program was created, but still difficult to ensure the quality of its programs. On the other hand, in the extension process of the broadcast two times, CBS made adjustment and change of the program. Nevertheless, the successful operation, the proper arrangement of the new program and participation and education programs in English language training program were notable. But this time, children's literature of radio broadcasts was even falling. CBS is famous for its unique dialogic play and adaptation work, but it revealed the limits to be concentrated to a particular artist. At the beginning of 1958 within a rigid society, CBS went through tough times. By shortening of the time for children's program, some competitive programs were abolished and some programs had to change the title to “- class”. Children's literature program was also abolished therefore; most of programs were just adaptation works. Such a situation lasted until April 19 revolutions. At the time of fall reorganization, CBS has established the inheriting the spirit of April 19 revolutions and the concentrated on «Children's time» program. In the process, some of the program has been successfully aired, the children's literature program was aired just once. But competitive radio broadcasts era was brought in the 1960s; it was hard to be optimistic about the future of the children’s literature in radio program.
