학자금지원 유형이 대학생 학습활동과 학습성과에 미치는 영향 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국교육개발원의 「대학의 교수ㆍ학습 질 제고 전략 탐색 연구 조사」 2014년 데이터를 사용해 학자금 지원 유형별(장학금만 수혜, 일반대출만 수혜, 든든학자금만 수혜, 장학금과 일반대출 동시 수혜, 장학금과 든든학자금 동시 수혜)로 학자금지원이 대학생들의 수업태도, 교수와 상호작용, 교내ㆍ외 근로, 학습성과에 미치는 영향을 준실험적 방법인 경향점수매칭을 사용해 분석했다. 분석 결과 첫째, 장학금만 또는 일반대출만 수혜한 학생집단은 수혜받지 못한 학생집단에 비해 학습활동이나 학습성과에서 별다른 차이를 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 든든학자금만을 수혜한 집단은 수업태도가 유의미한 수준에서 긍정적으로 나타났다. 셋째, 장학금과 일반대출을 동시에 수혜받은 학생들은 학습활동과 학습성과에서 차이가 없었으나, 장학금과 든든학자금을 동시에 대출받은 학생들은 수업태도가 긍정적으로 개선된 것으로 나타났다. 장학금만 지원받았을 때의 효과가 긍정적으로 나타나지 않은 것은 장학금이 등록금을 충당하기에는 부족한 때문으로 보인다. 든든학자금은 등록금 충당률이 상당히 높아 상대적으로 학생들의 수업태도 개선에 기여한 것으로 보인다. 든든학자금, 장학금과 일반대출, 장학금과 든든학자금을 수혜받은 학생들은 특히 교외근로가 증가하고 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 일반대출이나 든든학자금이 결국 갚아야하는 대출이라는 점과 현재의 학자금으로는 여전히 학비와 생활비 등이 부족하기 때문으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the causal effect of the types of financial aids on learning attitude, the relationship between students and professors, working hours, and competencies, using data from National Assessment for Student Engagement in Learning survey in 2014 and performing propensity score matching. First, this study found that students receiving only scholarship and only loan had no significant differences from control group students. Second, it found that receiving only Income Contingent Loan enhanced learning activities significantly. Third, receiving both scholarship and loan had no effect on learning activities and competencies. However, students with scholarship and Income Contingent Loan showed significantly positive learning activities. The negative effect of scholarship on learning activities might be related that scholarship was not enough for students to pay tuition and living expenses. On the contrary, students receiving Income Contingent Loan paid tuition much more than those with other types of financial aid. Students receiving Income Contingent Loan, both scholarship and loan, both Income Contingent Loan and scholarship worked more outside universities. They might need to work more because they think that these types of financial aids are debts to pay and still fell short of tuition and living expenses.
