영문 초록

This study aims at measuring the spatial impact of the Korean-Japan Underwater Tunnel Project which has been proposed by some professionals as an attempt to link the transportation network of Korea and that of Japan. Some interesting findings are as follow: First, it is expected that the construction of the Korea-Japan Tunnel will contribute in decreasing regional inequality between the Capital Region and the Non-Capital Region by encouraging the economic potential of the regions outside the Capital Regions. Second, the Korea-Japan Tunnel will strengthen, especially, the Kwang-Joo Metropolitan Area as well as the Pusan Metropolitan Area, which in turn is expected to contribute to converting Korea from the current mono-centric spatial structure to muti-centric spatial structure. Third, the degree of spatial impact heavily depends on the type of the underwater tunnel. Finally, it is expected the spatial of the tunnel in Japan will be much lower compared to that in Korea.
