지역개발학 연구경향 분석 ( 1989 - 1998 ) : 「 한국지역개발학회지 」 의 내용분석을 중심으로

영문 초록

This study exmines the general trend of research published in the Journal of The Korean Regional Development Association by using the content analysis. The trend includes the topical research area of papers, the research designs and purpose, and the source of funding, etc. It is found that the most concerned topic in the field of regional development for those who published in the journal was regional economy which consisted of 25.8 percent of the total research works. The new topic which researchers are interested in was the area of regional development policy. These two topics were followed by rural development and spatial organization. It is reported, however, that little concern (about 3 to 5 percent) was given by researchers to such issues as environmental, housing, transportation, and local autonomy related matters. The reason is probably that those areas have its own academic association and journal so that the majority of research in the area would be published there. It is also found that 34.4 percent of research published in the journal was funded from universities and other sources, showing that a little higher than 29 percent of funding ratio in the field of domestic public administration research while much lower than 47 percent of social science research in the United States. It is found that 68.3 percent of the research in the journal analyzed was done by using descriptive method while 31.7 percent used statistical method as the primary analyzing tool, and the majority (87.1 percent) of research analyzed was the problem-solving oriented rather than the theoretical or normative one. It should be noted, however, that this study was done by analyzing the research works only published in the Journal of The Korean Regional Development Association so the results may not represent the general trend of research in the field of regional development in Korea.
