영문 초록

In this study, we set up a regional growth model, and estimate the model using Korean regional data of 1977 and 1987, which were the years of conducting National Wealth Survey. We then analyze the stabilities of regional growth paths and the trade-off between national growth and regional income differences. According to this study, the regional growth paths of both 1977 and 1987 were unstable, which implies the nonconvergence of regional per-capita income. This paper also shows both theoretical and empirical trade-offs between national growth and regional income difference. And Korean economic policies were proved to be biased toward national growth rather than balanced regional growth in both years. Therefore, we conclude that balanced regional growth should be emphasized in economic policy, and the best way of achieving this goal is to raise the interregional mobility of production factors, especially the capital stock.
