잠언 1~9장의 ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’

국문 초록

1935년 보스트룀이 잠언에 등장하는‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’에 주목하는 연구를 발표한 이후, 이 여인(들)에 대한 관심은 여러 학자들의 연구를 통해 이어져 왔다. 본 연구는 ‘외국 여인’ ‘이방 여인’ ‘낯모르는 여인’ ‘낯선 여인’ 등으로 해석될 수 있는 이 여인(들)의 신원규명에 보다 구체적으로 접근하기 위하여 다음 세 가지를 제안하면서 진행되었다. 1) ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’가 함께 동반되는 경우 이를 한 여인에 대한 동격적 표현으로 볼 것인가, 아니면 서로 다른 두 존재에 대한 복수적 표현으로 볼 것인가? 2) 잠언 1~9장에서 반복적으로 등장하는 이 여인(들) 안에서 구조적 일관성과 내용적인 연계성이 발견되는가? 3) 만일 일관적 연계성이 발견된다면 이 여인의 신원을 어떻게 규명할 수 있겠는가? ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’가 등장하는 각각의 본문들에 대한 구조적이고 내용적인 분석은 ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’가 서로 다른 존재를 가리키는 복수 개념이 아니라 한 존재에 대한 동격 표현이라는 점을 밝혀주었다. 또한 ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’가 포함된 네 개의 본문들은 모두 일정한 모티브들을 갖고 있었는데, 모두 현혹하는 ‘말’이라는 모티브를 공유하고 있었고(2,16; 5,3; 6,24; 7,5), 교훈, 가르침, 토라와도 연결되어 있었으며(2,17; 5,12~13; 6,20~23; 7,1~4), 그녀의 유혹이 ‘죽음에 이르는 길’이라는 점도 대부분 언급되고 있었다(2,18~20; 5,5~6; 7, 25~27). 이러한 내용들은 이 여인에 대한 잠언 1~9장의 보도가 매우 일관된 구조와 내용적 연속성 안에 전개되고 있음을 확인시켜 준다. 즉 ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’가 등장하는 각각의 본문들은 서로 다른 여인을 개별적으로 소개하기보다, 일관적인 구조와 내용적 연계성 안에서 하나의 고정된 주제를 전하고 있다고 볼 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 맥락에서‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’는 새 번역의 경우처럼 매번 같은 단어로 번역하는 것이 적절하다는 결론에 이르게 된다. 마지막으로 1~9장 전체의 맥락 고찰과 개별적인 네 본문들에 대한 구조분석은 이 본문들이 이 여인을 단 한번도 구체적이고 실제적인 외국 여인으로 간주하지 않았음을 드러내 준다. 오히려 ‘אשה ןרה’와 ‘זכריה’는 유다인들의 전통적 가르침이나 하느님과의 계약을 위협하는 그릇되고 낯선 가르침을 경고하기 위해 적용된 은유적이고 상징적인 표현으로 간주하는 것이 적절하다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

Ever since G.Bostrom presented his study bringing to attention ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’in Proverbs in 1935, increasing interest in these women has continued by other scholars. In order to approach more concretely the examination of their identities, each name which could be translated as ‘foreigner’ ‘alien’ ‘stranger’, or ‘unacquainted’, this study should proceed with three following inquiries: 1. When ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’appear together, should we consider them as an appositional expression of one woman or as plural expressions of two distinct persons? 2. Could we find in the texts where these women repeatedly appear in Proverbs 1~9, consistent structure and coherent contents? 3. If consistent continuity is (consistent structure and coherent contents are) found, how could we determine their identities? The analysis of structure and contents of each text where ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’appear, shows that ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’ are not two distinct persons (plural concept), rather they are appositional expressions of one same person. In addition, the four texts that contain ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’carry a uniform motif. All these texts express the motif that has power to allure (2,16; 5,3; 6,24; 7,5) and they all (2,17; 5,12~13; 6,20~23; 7,1~4) are connected with teachings, instructions, and the Torah, and her allure, which is the ‘way that leads to death’(2,18~20; 5,5~6, 7,25~27) are mentioned almost. These facts prove that the information about this woman develops with very uniform structure and coherent contents. Each text that contains ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’does not introduce two different women, but rather, it conveys one same person and the same theme within the uniform structure and coherent contents. From this line of thought, we can conclude that it is appropriate to translate both names into same word each time. Lastly, the examination of contexts as a whole and the analysis of structure of each of the four texts within Proverbs 1~9 shows that these texts never concretely and actually regards this woman as a foreigner. Instead, it is appropriate to consider ‘אשה ןרה’ and ‘זכריה’as allegorical and symbolic expressions used in order to warn against any erroneous or foreign doctrines that could threaten Jewish traditional teachings and the covenant made with God.
