조선시대 漢詩文에 나타난 景福宮에 대한 心象

국문 초록

경복궁은 조선왕조의 法宮이었기에 경복궁에 대한 수많은 시와 산문이 지속적으로 창작되었다. 이 글들을 검토하게 되면 ‘경복궁’이 어떻게 표상되었는지를 시기적으로 파악할 수 있다. 또한 경복궁은 지금도 ‘복원 사업’이 이루어지고 있으므로 이에 대한 인문학적 깊이를 더할 수도 있을 것이다. 이에 본고는 ‘세움(영광)’과 ‘무너짐(성찰)’이라는 열쇠말을 통해 이 자료들을 분석해 보았다. 주지하듯, 경복궁은 창건 이후 수차례에 걸쳐 화재등의 심각한 재해를 입었으며 임진왜란 때는 완전히 폐허가 되었다. 그 후 19세기에 대규모 중건이 이루어졌지만 일제시기에 대부분의 전각이 헐리고 말았다. 이런 점에서 ‘세움’과 ‘무너짐’은 의미 있는 분석의 도구가 될 수 있 다고 보았다. 먼저 ‘세움’과 ‘영광’을 강조하는 글들에서는 조선왕조의 무궁한 안녕을 바라는 마음이 강하게 투영되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 폐허가 된 이후에도 이 마음을 담은 글들이 지어졌으며, 이것이 결국 19세기 경복궁중건으로 이어졌다고 본고는 분석하였다. 하지만 이러한 글들은 다분히 ‘선전’의 목적을 띄고 있어 문학적 흥취는 높지 않은 경향이 발견되었다. 그리고 경복궁이 심하게 훼손됨을 목격하고 지어진 글들은 보다 성찰적 성격을 지니고 있음이 확인되었다. 경복궁이 무너진 원인을 찾는 가운데 자연스럽게 지배계층의 반성을 유도하는 내용이 담기게 되었던 것이다. 그런데 임란 이후 경복궁이 오래도록 폐허로 방치되자 그곳이 여러 사람들이 유람하는 곳이 되었던 점이 흥미롭다. 당시 사람들은 그곳을 생활의 일부로 자연스럽게 받아들였던 것이며, 이를 표현한 한시들이 많이 지어졌다. 이러한 점을 살펴보았을 때, 경복궁은 ‘영광의 기억’과 함께 ‘폐허의 기억’도 동시에 가지고 있다고 말할 수 있으며, 향후 경복궁 복원 사업을 해나감에 있어 ‘영광’의 측면만 강조해서는 안 된다는 점을 시사하고 있다고 볼수 있다

영문 초록

This paper will analyze poetry and prose related to Gyeongbokgung in two major keywords, “building/glory” and “demolition/introspection”. Since Gyeongbokgung had been the main palace of the Joseon, people in the Joseon era had consistently written a lot of poetry and prose about Gyeongbokgung. By examining the poetry and the prose, we will be able to understand how Gyeongbokgung had been symbolized in each period. Furthermore, we will be able to add new humanistic meanings to Gyeongbokgung's recent reconstruction plan. The reason why we should look at the writings related to Gyeongbokgung through the keywords of “building/glory” and “demolition/introspection” is as follows. In fact, the palace has both the memory of glory and that of pain. To be specific, while Gyeongbokgung had reigned as the main palace of the Joseon for several years, it had also suffered from few major fire, and thoroughly ruined during the Imjin War(1592~1598). In the 19th century, the palace had underwent reconstruction plan on a large scale, however the majority of the buildings were demolished in the Japanese ruling era. In this point, two keywords mentioned above will be an effective tool to analyze the writings. In the case of the writings which emphasize the positive aspects about Gyeongbokgung, such as “building” and “glory”, we can understand that patriotism toward the Joseon Dynasty is strongly reflected in the writings. After the demolition, the writings with patriotic purposes were written continuously, and the writings seem to result in the reconstruction plan of the 19th century. However, these writings have strong propagational purpose, so they show a tendency of lacking in literary merit. Meanwhile, in the case of the writings which emphasize the aspect of the demolition, the writings reveal the characteristic of introspection. Looking for causes of the palace’s destruction, writers put contents that led the ruling class to an introspection naturally in their writings. Interestingly, after Gyeongbokgung went by ruins, it was used as a place to entertain many ordinary people. At that time, people considered the palace as their part of life, and this notion was portrayed by Joseon writers in numerous Chinese poetry. Considering these standpoints, we are able to say that Gyeongbokgung has both memory of glory and that of demolition, and we are able to argue that we should pay attention to memory of demolition not only the palace’s glorious memory.
